An Old Jean Grey in an All-New, But Well-Known Controversy

When Jean Grey and the rest of the X-Men from the past came to our present time, they were in for a rude awakening. Present Scott Summers, our Cyclops, is basically a terrorists; Hank McCoy, The Beast, is a blue-furred monster; and Warren Worthington, the high-flying Angel, is dead.

But that's nothing compared to the tribulations of Jean Grey.

From the earliest moments since she's been pulled into our point in the timeline, her psychic mind-reading abilities were awakened. Without having full control of them, she's been privy to thoughts about her in the present...things she's never done. She's also learned that in this present, she's dead because of a powerful alien entity known of The Phoenix. It took her as a host and began destroying the universe.

Well, all that was the past...or, IS this version of Jean Grey's future. (See, this is what sucks when you have to describe a time-altering event!) But it doesn't mean she's not going to get in trouble for it. What transpires in this event is a straightforward attack on the X-Men by the Shi'ar Empire. In simplest terms, they found "Jean Grey" and want to put her on trail for the crimes committed as The Phoenix.

Does it matter that this Jean Grey has done nothing wrong? Guess not!

001 All-New X-Men #22.NOW - Begins the event. The team is starting to get back to "normal", but Cyclops and Jean are having lots of feuds. She inadvertently reads his mind; at the same time, he's trying to cope, with her, over all the things they've learned about their future selves. Suddenly, in the woods where Iceman is hanging out, Shi'ar troops attack! Iceman calls out to the team; as they engage in battle, they are systematically neutralized until Jean Grey is captured. Then they fly off. No one knows what is going on; another craft approaches and lands. It's Peter Quill aka Star-Lord and, unfortunately, he realizes he's too late.
002 Guardians of The Galaxy #11.NOW - The events in this issue actually match and lead to the last page of All-New X-Men #22.NOW. Peter Quill is having a drink when a Skrull Shapeshifter, posing as Gamora, knocks him out for a bounty. While in the bazaar, the real Gamora, with Angela, spots him and attacks. Before they can interrogate her, Angela kills the Skrull, but assumes she works for Peter's dad, the King of Spartax. Once on their ship, Rocket tells them that he's been "monitoring" transmissions and got word that the Shi'ar are going after Jean Grey on Earth. Peter attempts to warn the X-Men, but arrives just as she's being captured.
003 All-New X-Men #23 - When Scott wakes up, he's on Starlord's ship, and at the outskirts of the Shi'ar Empire. They tell him that Jean has been captured and they're making plans. Within the empire, Jean Grey is captured and told why. She claims she's never done anything to them, but it doesn't seem to matter. (Ironically, comments throughout this event suggest that this Trial is "Ridiculous", but apparently it's not ridiculous enough to forego the plot of this crossover.) Jean is eventually interviewed by Oracle, another telepath. She senses raw emotions and mostly love for her friends, but still asserts that the Shi'ar will be judging her soon. She warns Jean to watch her temper. Back on the Starlord's Ship, the Shi'ar have found them, they start attacking, having caught them off guard. Fortunately, a new ship arrives to start some trouble: it's the StarJammers. And on the last page, Scott Summers is about to meet...his dad.
004 Guardians of The Galaxy #12 - Moments of Scott's childhood pass through his eyes when his father and mother saved him and Alex in a crashing plane. Now Scott is face to face with Corsair aka his dad, leading of The StarJammers. Scott has to be alone after he absorbs all this, but X-23 comes by to give him a hug. On Spartax, J-Son is informed of the Grey's capture, also learning that his son is in the middle of all this. He wanted to ignore the whole thing, but now he'll have to get involved. Jean, currently, it still being interviewed. Oracle attempts to give her advice; Jean is still yelling that she didn't do anything wrong. Near the end of the issue, Superguardian is showing the destruction of star systems and planets by The Phoenix; he's listing the accusations against Jean Grey in the middle of a huge arena-style forum. Once finished, he asks her how she pleas, guilty or not guilty!
005 All-New X-Men #24 - Continues immediately from Guardians of The Galaxy #12. Gladiator asks Grey one more time how she pleads. Suddenly, J-Son of Spartax interrupts the procession. He confronts the Imperial leader, revealing that they have been murdering Jean Grey's family bloodline in fear that it might be attracting the Phoenix Force. Somehow, during that intermission, Jean Grey escapes her prison. The Imperial Guard are sent to find her. Back in space, The Starjammers and Guardians send Angela out as a lure. She's gathered and put on a ship that she eventually takes over. Learning Grey's location and getting updated, they arrive to stop Gladiator and his guard as they threaten to assassinate Jean Grey. The fight goes to full force with good action. But suddenly, as detailed on the last page, Jean claims that she's guilty...and a monster.
006 Guardians of The Galaxy #13 - The battle is reclaimed, only this time Jean pulls off some fantastic feat of psychic power. She's risen to an all-new higher level, capable of fighting off SuperGuardian. Now evolved, she blames him for killing off her family line. Oracle immediately intrudes and stops the fight; she says it's over. The X-Men, and company, leave. Once back on Earth, Cyclops tells his team that he's going with his dad and The Starjammers. After some hugs, he leaves. We also see Kitty Pryde getting a little "flirty" with Quill. On the last page, we also see Jean Grey; she's a lot different and maybe be coping with something (non-phoenix) completely different.

Here's the problem, just about everyone in the Marvel Universe of Superheroes is now suspicious of Spider-Man. He just hasn't been himself. And no wonder: Doctor Octopus has been running Peter Parker's body for the last year.

Right now, though, Spidey is in the middle of Goblin Nation.
In this edition of Dynababes, we're giving you a glimpse of Platinum, the only female member of the Metal Men group. Currently, she's dead!

Wait! Don't worry! There's more to tell!

About six months ago, The Metal Men fought Chemo and sacrificed themselves to destroy the monster. This has been well documented in Justice League #28 (2014). At this point, you were led to believe they were no more.

But at the end of the issue, Will Magnus, creator of the Metal Men has shown Cyborg that the team is actually on Standby; he still has their responsometers and only needs to re-bind them with their liquid-metal counterparts to activate them once more.

The Metal Men team officially consists of: Lead, Tin, Iron, Mercury, Gold, and, well...yes, Platinum. Each member has a level of shape-shifting, but the properties of their specific element gives them additional abilities as well. In addition, the types of metal seem to have formed their personalities.

Welcome! This is a Dynababes Edition contribution which you'll encounter from time to time on The Superheroes List. Sometimes it's a good thing to showcase the superheroes and give a glimpse to what's happening in the world. In any Dynababes submission, the focus is on a super-female. She doesn't have to be all-powerful or glamorous, but she may very well be the star of the show.Blake Czirrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01383413707498458320noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3459131702457723175.post-14299013877902651702014-02-19T11:40:00.003-06:002014-04-18T05:18:06.584-05:00The Superior Spider-Man Goblin Nation Reading Order

Slotted as a 5-Issue Story Arc, Peter Parker/Otto Octavious aka The Superior Spider-Man faces one of his deadliest foes in a showdown that will end the title. From the aftermath of this battle, the Amazing Spider-Man #1 opens April 2014.

Begins: February 2014
Ends: April 2014

Premise: In the past year, Peter Parker has become a bare "figment" of Doc Ock's imagination. Only scant traces remain, and there appears to be nothing left for the former psyche to grab onto. Doctor Octopus in in control.

Using his great intellect, Otto Octavious has been amassing his power by coupling the abilities of his new Spider-Man body with science. Spider-Island, formerly the High Security prison known as The Raft, is his base of operations; there, he has been gathering and stealing all the high-tech weaponry of Spidey's greatest foes. New York has been in virtual lockdown as "Spider-bots" crawl through the city watching everyone. And although crime is at an all-time low, even the Avengers are suspicious that something is wrong with The Wall-Crawler.

Welcome to the Goblin Nation Reading Order.
Although this is going to be a small story arc, we're going to take a snapshot of it and provide the details and some of the artwork. If there's additional inclusions, they will be noted so as to give you a more complete understanding of the event.

What You Need To Know: Since Spider-Man's assault on crime, the Green Goblin has been secretly taking over the underworld in New York City. His identity at this point remains a mystery, but he has been secretly building his lair and recruiting his henchmen. Unfortunately this didn't do well with The Hobgoblin, who quickly caught on and attacked. When we enter the "unofficial" prelude, the Green Goblin and Hobgoblin are duking it out to the death.

P01 The Superior Spider-Man #26 - This is an unofficial start to the prelude of Goblin Nation. While the Spider-bots are patrolling the city, it appears they are completely blind to an all-out battle occurring between the Green Goblin and Hobgoblin. Walls are exploding and the wreckage is growing. Led to believe all is well, our "Superior" Spider-Man is leading a raid against AIM agents at the New York Harbor. Before he can commence, though, Captain America and the Avengers intercept him. They dispatch the villains and then Caps tells Spidey that his probation is over. The issue then cuts to a mindscape where Peter Parker, the original Spider-Man is trying to survive. He's got only a few of his own memories to hold on to and has no idea how to beat Doc Ock, eventually promising that he'll never give up. Back at the Goblin battle, the two agree to unofficial duel; whoever wins gets control of the entire horde of underlings and resources. When the battle commences, we're still not sure who is under each mask, but later Hobgoblin spots a legendary scar that only Norman Osborn should have and begins to lose confidence. The Green Goblin beats him down, winning the skirmish. The issue also moves to the Avengers Tower; with Iron Man in lead, reprimanding Spidey for his dubious behavior. While they are warning him, he decides to quit the team.
P02 Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #9 - Specifically states that it belongs between Superior Spider-Man #26 and #27. It is also unofficially part of this story arc prelude, but here for the important information. While patrolling the city, The Punisher and Daredevil bring Spidey down to them. They tell him that someone has stolen a "goblin glider" from one of Castle's safe-houses; the devil tells him that something eerie is going on in the city, but he can't quite pin it down. Eventually, Spider-Man leads them to his Spider-Island facility, showing them his upgrades. While they tour it, one of his hirelings turns out to be a goblin-aided spy and attempts to set some bombs off. He fails, but not before the three heroes learn that many if not all of his workers are on the take. Spider-Man is betrayed by his own army and still doesn't realize the Green Goblin is back!
P03 Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #10 - Immediately following the previous issue, Spider-Man, Punisher, and Daredevil are outmanned as they attempt to retake Spider-Island from Spidey's henchmen. They are obviously working for someone else, but Spidey won't admit it. Heading to a new level, Daredevil convinces the Web-head to flood the level and wash the men out; Punisher gets some trust as he camouflages hit shots behind Spidey. All this time, our wallcrawler - actually Doc Ock - trusts no one. In the end, though, answers begin to emerge when he sees a goblin tattoo on one of the assailants. It is then he realizes things are truly bad.

001 Superior Spider-Man #27.NOW - This issue is part of the "All-New NOW!" collection, depicted by ".NOW" suffix as well as the official start of the Goblin Nation story arc. It's been 31 days since Spider-Man crushed the rebellion ranks on Spider-Island that we saw in Superior Spider-Man Team-Up #9, but something is still wrong. As he looks over the city, he can hear the screams, rioting, and turmoil. Yet, nothing shows up with his Spider-bots. As he swings towards his base, he spots the Goblin murals on the bridge. Now he realizes that the Green Goblin is back! The issue then cuts to Peter Parker's psyche in the mindscape; he's got 31 memories left supporting him. Suddenly, he gets an idea to invade Doc Ock's memories one by one. He starts with the villain's birth. Back in the physical world, multiple things are happening. Spider-Man realizes that the Green Goblin has hacked his bots facial-recognition software and we see that J.Jonah Jameson has just about got the new Spider-Slayer on line. Meanwhile, Spidey heads to software-maker, Uatu, and learns that the bots are being sent a hack signal that he can track. He follows it into the subway tunnels and comes face-to-face with the Green Goblin and multiple super-villains under his command. Instead of fighting, though, Goblin sits down and tells him he knows everything: that he's Otto Octavious! He offers Ock a position as his second, which sets Spidey off and the battle begins. Green Goblin almost electrocutes Spider-Man, but it turns out to be a hologram; Spidey is controlling it safely from a VR room in his lair. While boasting, though, the Goblin unveils his surprise assault on Spider-Island; Menace, Goblin Knight, and hundreds of goblin minions fly in undetectable and blow the place to bits!
002 Superior Spider-Man #28 - Spidey flees his island as it is blown to smithereens. He's go some of his resources, but most of his work is lost. Across the city there is panic; Jameson has now re-purposed the Spider-Slayers as Goblin-Slayers and promises to take the goblin threat down. In the meantime, the Green Goblin's master plan is underway. He begins sending his troops out to attack those close to Peter Parker. Carly has been transformed into "Monster", she goes after Pete where he works, but begs him to help her when she manages to gain control for a few seconds. Mary Jane, sensing the tactic, dons a couple web-shooters. She drives around town attempting to gather all of Pete's relatives and friends. In the last few issues, Pete's new girlfriend, Anna Maria Marconi is coerced into a car by Lily Thompson. Unfortunately, it's actually Menace!
003 Superior Spider-Man #29 - This would be the issue where everything that can go bad for Otto-as-Spidey happens. Having faked his death in the media, Parker works on transforming Carly back from her goblin form. Suddenly, he gets a phone call; Gobbie knows what he's up to! Taunting him, the Green Goblin tells Spider-Man he's got a hostage, giving him the location for a showdown. But not before blowing up every location that was ever important to Otto Octavious. Now enraged, Otto heads there as Spider-Man. Fearing the hostage my be his Anna Marie, he's surprised to see Goblin holding Don Lamaze. So, he attacks anyway. The Goblin is disappointed; as Spidey pops out his extra arms, he hacks into their tech and has them attempt to kill him. Don attempts to get in the way and is impaled. Spidery then heads further into the trap; suddenly he's attacked by numerous Spider-Slayers. Jameson is on screen saying he's done playing nice. They almost kill the web-slinger until Spider-Man 2099 shows up, deactivating them with his own tech. This Spidey wants answers, knowing something is wrong with our web-head. But before they can resolve their conflict, Norman Osborn's face shows up; he's reactivated the Slayers. They're attacking again!
004 Superior Spider-Man #30 - This may be the best issue of the event, if not the entire year. Otto-Spider-Man is confounded, abandoning Spider-Man 2099 to fight for himself. In the midst of trying to save one of the people he previously helped, he gets lost. He doesn't know what to do. Suddenly, the psychic image of Peter Parker appears, making him jump and do the right thing. There's a mental dialogue as the two decide that Peter Parker is truly the Superior of the two. Otto takes himself back to his lab and expunges his memories. His last heroic act is to destroy himself, giving the Spider-Man body over to Peter Parker so he can save Anna Marie. Fully back, Peter Parker dons the original Spider-Man costume. It's time for the real, Superior Spider-Man!
005 Superior Spider-Man #31 - Marvel tries to wrap up the entire "Superior" series in one issue as Peter Parker returns to his role as the Wallcrawler. Having synthesized a cure with Carlie, he finds Miguel O'Hara and faces the Green Goblin. Almost immediately, Goblin realizes that Otto Octavious is gone. Amidst the fight, Spidey unmasks the villain and finds out he is Norman Osborn; still, his face has been altered. Apparently Norm is now messing with his true appearance. Before all the reasons behind this get answered, Spidey puts the cure to Goblin and rescues Otto's girlfriend. Goblin is now captured, but in the transfer, one of the Alchemax employees sets off a Spidey-sense feedback jammer. The Green Goblin gets away! The remainder of the issue is about tying up loose ends. Now back "from the dead", Peter goes through multiple scenarios...with Mary Jane, Carlie, Aunt May, and even J. Jonah...trying to make things right. By the end of the issue, we don't know if things have worked out; surely there's a lot more to be done. Either way, the process of returning Peter Parker is on. Also, Norman Osborn is hiding out in the sewers and lamenting that he can change his face to look like anyone. It appears that he's already preparing for a comeback.
Before our universe, no, our...reality, existed, there was another. It too used the emotional spectrum to achieve its ends, but more-so than our Lanterns ever dared. That place is now gone, dead. And from the bowels of its implosion came one creature, surviving the new reality, calling himself Relic. His thoughts are focused; his powers absolute. His task, simple: the lights of the emotional spectrum must be collected, preserved. And he will kill every Green Lantern in his way, if necessary.
001 Green Lantern #24 - Officially starts the event. Arriving on Oa, Hal Jordan and others try to find out what happened to the Green Power Battery. It's been revealed that recently it spit out a near-dead looking Ion who took off with the other light entities. While pondering if Kyle Rayner might offer some assistance, he appears with his team of New Guardians. Kyle then tells them of "Relic", a being from the previous universe, who came here to collect the light spectrum's. During this discussion, the villain arrives. He warns them to give up and leave Oa, but they refuse, Hal striking the first blow. Relic then unleashes his tech; spider-bots latch onto the Power Battery while discs whirl around blocking, and returning, attacks to their masters. In short time, the Battery becomes completely drained. Soon after, it explodes. Now stranded without their power source, they are left with their rings and a few, collected Lanterns. But the worst is not over; Salaak tells them that the Battery was integrated all throughout Oa's core. Soon, it will explode.
002 Green Lantern Corps #24 - Part 2: Oa's Last Stand. Continues immediately from Green Lantern #24. The battle continues, but now the Green Lanterns are attempting to escape the planet. With John Stewart's tactics, a diversionary attack on Relic is created while the rest escape in The Citadel. Now revealed, the structure once thought to be a hallowed hall turns out to actually be an escape rocket. The diversion and fighting continues, but finally has played out. Known as Ergann, this one figure stages a martyrdom while holding Relic's ship in place, dying as his fellow Green Lantern's escape and the planet blows up.
003 Green Lantern New Guardians #24 - Part 3: Gods and Monsters. Occurs moments after Green Lantern Corps #24. Believing John Stewart and his team dead, Hal argues with the Guardians and others about what they should do next; for some reason, Relic hasn't gone after them. Suddenly, Kyle sees the Spectrum Entities heading towards them. Each one: Ion, Adara, Predator, Ophidian, Proselyte, and The Entity merge with him. They've taken over Kyle's body to do as they will. As they leave, Hal and the rest fight them, urging them to stay; he believes these creatures could be key to beating Relic. But Kyle's body isn't under his control; using their powers, he teleports them to Ysmalt, home of the Red Lanterns, where they were originally headed for support. Meanwhile, it turns out Stewart and his forces are still alive. Barely. They've entered Secret 2814 and located the secret world where Indigo-1 and her Indigo Tribe resides. Now all they have to do is locate her. In the meantime, Kyle is still fighting for control. His strength is unbelievable, but not enough as his body is intercepted by The Guardians; they were able to ignore the teleportation attack. Using their powers, they help Kyle achieve balance and regain his assertion; the Entities are now under his control. But ironically, Kyle now realizes what has to happen. Relic doesn't need to be defeated, he needs to be helped.
004 Red Lanterns #24 - Part 4: Blood Brothers. Happens a short, undefined while later. On Ysmalt, Guy Gardner is fighting with Bleez now that she knows he was sent as a traitor. Guy attempts a ploy and it works. In turn, he reveals the original intent with the group. Now claiming that he has become a true Red Lantern, all our surprised with Hal and his forces arrive seeking alliance. The Red Lanterns attack, but Hal makes parley with Guy, who in turn makes an offer to his group. Near the same time, elsewhere in the galaxy, Atrocitus is now calling himself Atrocity Butcher as he flies, empowered by The Butcher Entity. In the midst of his glory, he's surprised by Kyle Rayner who absorbs The Butcher, ultimately leaving Atrocitus abandoned with his cat, Dex-Starr. Back on Ysmalt, and agreement has been reached; for the Red Lanterns help in beating Relic, they will get their own Sector where they are the law. At the same time, Kyle has found Relic; the villain is at the edge of the universe attempting to blow a hole and create a breach. As Kyle shows up, Relic prepares to fight. But now things are different, Kyle and the Guardians have decided to help him in his objective.
005 Green Lantern Annual #2 - Part 5: The Source. Occurs near immediately after Red Lanterns #24. Hal and Guy argue over finding Kyle and Relic until Star Sapphire Carol uses her tether; this means she's now in love with Kyle. The issue then moves to Relic, Kyle, and the Guardians at the edge of the universe. The probes aren't working and Relic's theory is that the reservoir is dying and needs replenishing. He turns on Kyle and uses his tech to suck the energies from the Entities contained. Suddenly Hal, Guy, and all the other forces show up. The fighting begins. As the battle thickens, now John Stewart and his remaining forces join the fray; the Indigo Tribe is helping him. They teleport fighters between Relic and his tech-mirrors and begin wailing on him. Guy then tells his Red Lanterns to tear Relic's ship apart. It hits the wall and is absorbed into it. With all their rings beginning to fail, something else happens at the wall; it begins cracking with dark emanations. Kyle comes forward and drags Relic with him through the wall. The White Ring now becomes fully powered as Kyle realizes its secret. Relic begins to come forth from the wall; he claims his theory was correct and now the reservoir is filled, but dies, being absorbed into the wall before he can escape. The remaining Lanterns never see Kyle return. Believed to be dead, Indigo-1 teleports them to the planet Mogo, where they find a restored and rebuilt Green Power Battery. Stewart used his friendship with the Tribe to get them to rebuilt it with Mogo as the home base. In the final pages of the story, the guardians remain at the wall in a vigil for Kyle. He suddenly appears, erupting and escaping the wall. They tell him that all must believe he is still dead; now his journey truly begins.Blake Czirrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01383413707498458320noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3459131702457723175.post-15808456204813371792013-11-05T12:35:00.003-06:002014-02-24T07:07:44.801-06:00Damian, Son of Batman, Reading Order

Damian, Son of Batman #1 - Book One: Next of Kin. Begins the Series. On a routine mission, Batman and Robin begin examining a pile of bodies strewn about at the Gotham Docks. They search until Batman comes upon a smiling fish. Suddenly, before Damian can stop his father, it explodes. The Boy Wonder wakes up hours later and finds his father under wreckage. When he digs him out, he realizes that Batman is dead. Weeks later, after attending the funeral, Damian travels to Isle Murjeno, home to his grandfather and The League of Assassins. There, he meets with his mother, Talia, and Ra's al Ghul. He asks them for help, but is denied. Ra's then informed him that his ties to the League is severed and that he should don the cowl of The Dark Knight, becoming the next Batman. Damian returns home and begins seeking revenge. Multiple criminals are claiming they killed Batman, but there is nothing from The Joker. One by one, he begins killing them. Confused about his moral responsibility, he goes to a church and makes confession. He's then faced with the Code of Justice his father upheld, but leaves in anger. Next, in Wayne Manor, Alfred confronts Damian about the criminal killings. This angers him again; he heads down to the Bat-Cave, preparing to leave, when he's suddenly intercepted by...Bruce Wayne!
Damian, Son of Batman #2 - Book Two: Hierarchy. Continues immediately from the previous issue. Outraged, Bruce Wayne barrels down on Damian. We now see that Bruce is much older. (The plot doesn't make it readily available about how much time has passed or if this story started farther in the future). In the struggle, it's clear he doesn't want Damian to don the cowl of Batman, but in the strugged, Damian shoots his father, piercing him through the chest, with his grapple gun. Now Bruce Wayne is barely alive. Damian flees for a bit, and returns with a modified Batman suit, vowing to rethink his ways and honor the legacy. He heads to Arkham Asylum and, after finding some clues in the Joker cell, goes after Professor Pyg. Meanwhile, back at the Manor, it appears one of Pyg's nurses are watching over Bruce. In the last few pages, Damian is facing some Dolltrons and gets thrown out a window.
Damian, Son of Batman #3 - Book Three: If Animals Could Talk. Alfred, still fulfilling his role as a familial protector, fishes Damian out of the river, working on his wounds and keeping him alive. After some surgery, Alfred collapses during dinner and "somehow" assumes the identity of a cat, talking to Damian. They discuss Professor Pyg which gives Damian new energy. He heads out and thwarts the Jackanapes gang, working for Pyg. Afterwards, he goes to confession; now the appearance is that there is something mysterious with the Priest, who disappears after revealing too much information he shouldn't know. Damian heads back to the Manor, talks with the Cat, and later finds that his dad is mission. A Joker card is all that's left behind. He heads back to the place where Batman was killed in issue #1, and finds a new "Joker" with thugs ready to attack and Wayne in his capture.
The Plot Thus Far: In case you think you're insane, you're not. Most people will have great difficulty following this story. The Batman who died in issue #1 was Dick Grayson; this is implied in issue #3. Bruce Wayne gave up his mantle to Grayson by the time of this story.
Damian, Son of Batman #4 - Book Four: Full Circle. Damian attacks and although overwhelmed, manages to slow his anger and fury. He's trying to keep his promise to his dad. He defeats this Joker and leaves with Wayne, but from behind, the True Joker emerges - apparently he's still alive. Things are muddled throughout this story, but eventually, we get the sense that Damian has passed the test; he's now accepted the role as the next Batman as he goes out to face more villains.

Editorial Note: Normally I'd give any story I catalog a fighting chance. I did not not think Damian, Son of Batman was a good series. I do not recommend it. It's clueless and steeped in distraction. There were too many loose ends - It appeared to be put together half-heatedly. The artwork was decent, but the plot seemed shallow.Blake Czirrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01383413707498458320noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3459131702457723175.post-40255438203649529472013-11-05T11:38:00.000-06:002014-02-19T12:12:07.838-06:00Krypton Returns Reading Order

001 Action Comics Annual #2
002 Superboy #25
003 Supergirl #25
004 Superman #25

Action Comics Annual #2 - Part 1. Begins the crossover event. Superman, now drawn out into space by a strange force, witnesses a temporal storm obliterate a star system. He sees a portal and travels through it, finding Supergirl and Superboy also there, confounded. They turn and see The Oracle, an immense being that sees past, present, and future; it points them to...Krypton. The once-destroyed planet now appears in the distance, but suddenly they are attacked by its defenses. Immediately they are teleported to Aragon, Krypton's Moon; The Oracle then shares its story. He'l survived their last encounter and went into the past. Jor-El, Superman's father, found him; that is when H'el learned he was a genetic mistake. Throughout history, H'el then changed events that could possibly save the doomed planet, but he has failed at every turn. The story is then interrupted and a legendary figure, none other than Faora, appears, now seeking their aid to stop H'el. She tells them that the travels of H'el has caused Krypton to become a Time-Tsunami bomb; it will destroy the omniverse. She also shows them that the Kryptonians are now enslaved. Now given a mission, the three are tasked to travel back in time through portals provided by The Oracle. Supergirl must perform a task during The Great Clone War, Superboy must travel back to the time of Supergirl's departure, and Superman must stop H'el at the moment of his success. As they leave, H'el arrives, killing Faora. He then uses his powers to find where they have gone, vowing to utterly destroy them.
Superboy #25 - Part 2. As Kon-El attempts to rescue young Kara, he's attacked by a creature of entropy and chaos called The Eradicator. At another time, Kara as Supergirl has her own problems, facing down the clones and their Leader whom she battles. Superman is now struggling to keep his true identity secret while facing his mother in their lab. His suit changes, but he's not sure why. Once she recognizes the House of El chestpiece, she scans him, reading radiation poisoning from the yellow sun. Back in early Krypton times, Kon-El now realizes he can use his powers without worrying about the Red Sun, and does so. He defeats The Eradicator. Supergirl, in her timeline, finally takes victory over the clones, but then H'el shows up carrying a shard of Kryptonite!
Supergirl #25 - Part 3. He'l monologues over Kara, preparing to kill her until she strikes him in the face, grabbing a weapon. In Superman's timeline, he watches from afar as his announces she's pregnant to her father. Suddenly someone arrives...and we switch to the scenes at Kon-El's timeline. He prepares to leave now that Kara is safe when he is suddenly struck from behind: The Eradicator is back to fighting strength. Superboy decides to unleash, but realizes that killing the creature seems nigh-impossible. With one hearty blow, he beats the creature through the time portal. He prepares to leave a second time and now H'el shows up. The battle takes a divergence as H'el fights in Superboy and Supergirl's time simultaneously. He's strong, but the division weakens him. As their battling continues, each Kryptonian gains a stronger footing against H'el.
Superman #25 - Part 4. The three different timestreams each hold a hero, and in Superman's he's facing his father! After some discussion, he realizes Jor-El has learned what H'el is and has a plan to defeat him. Kon-El is still facing H'el, but sees wounds from other temporal battles. Before he can defeat him in his timeline, H'el appears to disentegrate. Kara has the same fortune, beating H'el in the Kryptonian past. But Superman's timeline is most important; heading to Krypton's core with his father, they start a process that causes H'el to appear. Jor-El wants to kill him, but Superman freezes the being and converges the frozen body with a temporal loop. He believes this may just save Krypton from exploding and keep H'el from being killed. In the meantim, Superboy decides to help young Kara survive her timeline. Using his powers, he makes her forget his existence. He then lifts the entire city of Argo, throwing it safely into the sky where it will avoid the explosion. Now powerless, Kon-El drifts. Supergirl and Superman join back in the present and realizes Superboy sacrificed himself. They question the Oracle; it appears Krypton didn't survive and neither did Superboy, but they get no answers and head back to Earth.Blake Czirrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01383413707498458320noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3459131702457723175.post-45919950613418722962013-11-05T09:22:00.002-06:002013-11-05T10:59:22.559-06:00The Indestructible Hulk, Woes of Eiderdurm

Indestructible Hulk #6 (Starts a new chapter where Banner is still working for SHIELD.
Banner equips his team and, using a sliver of the enchanted Uru metal,
they create a portal to the mythical realm of Jotenheim, home of the
Frost Giants. While there, he hopes to find and acquire a legengary
substance known as Eiderdurm. After traveling a few minutes, though,
they are met with Thor Odinson, who appears in a much older version of
his costume. Thor warns them that the giants will attack soon, but - too
late - they attack. Banner is frozen, but soon Hulk's out. Thor is
knocked away from his hammer at some point and Hulk struggles,
eventually lifting it. Now worthy, he wields the power of Thor.)
Indestructible Hulk #7 (Continues from the previous issue.
Mjolnir lifted, Hulk and the Frost Giants believe he has Thor's power.
It turns out to be a farce; the weapon, called by Thor, is returning to
its master. Then the battle takes hold again. Preparing to lose, the
Giants capture one of Bruce's team and creates an illusion to stay with
them. Patricia, another member of the team, is secretly preparing
suicide by staying around the Hulk, but is thwarted when he saves her.
After the Giants flee, Bruce realizes why Thor doesn't recognize him.
They didn't only travel to Jotenheim, but moved into the past. Their
portal is now destroyed or closed by SHIELD, but Bruce isn't sure. He
tells the team to continue on their mission, not knowing that they are
being watched in secret.)
Indestructible Hulk #8 (Continues from the previous issue.
While resting, Banner tells Patricia that he's learned her secret:
she's dying of a brain degeneration and is with him hoping her demise
will be accidental for insurance purposes. This doesn't sway Patricia at
all and she stalks off. Later, using special bottles to hold the
Eiderdurm, and with the help of Thor's hammer, they open a portal back
to Earth. That's when the Frost Giant reveals himself and calls on his
clan to start the Midgard invasion. Unfortunately for them, SHIELD is
waiting on the other side with guns. Thor, and now a Hulk-out Banner,
join forces as they take out the Frost Giants. Patricia and the rest of
the group seem very intent now on surviving the ordeal. And once the
battle is over, they return to their domain, leaving the God of Thunder
to await new adventures.) Blake Czirrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01383413707498458320noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3459131702457723175.post-25157840099610061232013-11-04T13:29:00.004-06:002014-02-25T06:32:27.730-06:00Captain America: Living Legend Reading Order

With roots tracing from the archives of World War II, Steve Rogers aka Captain America meets a former comrade of the Russian Allies, Sergeant Volkov. It has been almost half a century, both men are changed, one the embodiment of United States, the other a mysterious enigma plaguing his homeland.

In this 4-Issue Limited Series, Captain America - Living Legend, Cap and Volkov meet, uncovering more mysteries. What dark tragedy occurred during the Soviet Space Program? What is the Dead Zone that horrifies them now? Only with the Shield-Slinger's help, will they live to share this tale.

Captain America - Living Legend (01 of 4) - Starting with a recap near the end of the WWII, Hitler is surrounded and the Nazi forces are about to surrender. Far into the Bavarian Alps, Sergeant Volkov of the Russian Allies murders his wounded Commander and leads his troops into a German Outpost. He is wounded and his troops are about to be obliterated when Captain America and an American Squad reinforce them. The Nazis are taken prisoner, countering Volkov's belief that they should be killed. After blowing their way into the bunker, they find many Weirmacht prisoners and a valuable prize: a Nazi Rocket Scientist important to both governments. Suddenly Volkov is shot by a stray Nazi bullet and all goes dark. The issue then shifts to the 60's; Volkov is alive thanks to Captain America's help and is now a Cosmonaut for the Soviets. He is sent into space and the scene closes on that note. The next panel shows the DEUS experiment (Dark Energy Utilization System) designed to provide sustainable - renewable energy. During its activation, something goes wrong; it becomes too strong. Suddenly, the ship reacts as if alive. Three hours later, on the SHIELD Helicarrier Oblivion, Captain America is briefed to go into Russian territory, a deadzone - where military units are attempting to intercept DEUS wreckage. His only clue to what may have brought the vessel down is VOLKOV.

Captain America - Living Legend (2 of 4) - The Russians head to the area, notoriously noted as a "Dead Zone" they have been avoiding for years. They believe it's too coincidental to be an accident. When they arrive at one of their outposts, all the men are dead, but at their own hands! The issue then changes to Captain America's perspective; in a low orbit over the territory, his craft goes "dead" and he has to make an emergency landing. Surviving, he makes his way to the coordinates of the DEUS debris to find Doctor Lauren Fox, lead scientist of the program. Alive, he begins coordinating her rescue and their escape from Russian interrogations. The issue also takes a brief visit into 1968 when Cosmonaut Volkov and two comrades are in space over the dark side of the moon. Somehow, he becomes possessed and releases the air locker, shooting them out into space. The shuttle lands back in USSR territory. The military intercepts, opens the hatch, and are then killed by the horrifying visage of Volkov. Switching back to Captain America, he and Fox have located the DEUS wreckage; it has fallen on top of Russian launch facility. Noticing no sign of military activity, they search around to discover a metallic monster composed, or fused, of the DEUS wreckage. Cap uses his knowledge of the ship to destroy it with a carefully place shield throw. Rogers now realizes that the technology Fox built helped create this monstrosity; it must be destroyed. But elsewhere, within the facility, Volkov smiles and waits knowing that Captain America is coming.

Captain America - Living Legend (3 of 4) - At the beginning of this issue, we are taken back to the 1970s where Volkov is being studied. All around him, men have been killing himself. He's trying to stop it from happening, but can't. At present, the Minister of Science is trying to coerce his Russian General to get his men in there and confiscate the technological wonders that have fallen into their lap. The General basically says this is suicide. As his men advance, they start fusing with the metal around and become monsters. Captain America jumps into the scene, throwing his shield and destroying them. The shield appears to be extremely effective because of its vibranium alloys. Using this knowledge, Fox makes a plan that has Cap lead the team inside to shut down the DEUS reactor. At this time, Captain America learns that Volkov is still alive and has become a horrid monster, causing people to kill themselves. They head inside and the monsters start attacking. Cap throws his shield, killing them, but also losing it when it burst through a wall to the outside. As soon as this happens, Cap begins to transform into a monster.

Captain America - Living Legend (4 of 4) - The Russians want to shoot Captain America, but Fox holds them off. Apparently Volkov is aware of Cap's transformation and wants to keep him alive for later. This abates the transformation and now Cap is fine. Fox and the soldiers grab laser weapons and Cap runs off. Although they think he's abandoned them, he's actually going back for his shield. When he returns, he gives it to Fox and tells her to get that reactor offline. Captain America then goes deep into the installation and finds Volkov; this is the showdown we knew would happen. Once confronted, he learns that Volkov is host to an ancient dark-energy creature that simple wants to die. It doesn't know how to and the echos from it cause others to commit suicide. Outside the space our its "children", causing chaos; they were born when the DEUS came online. Volkov tries to get Captain America to kill him, but Cap refuses until he starts to turn the gun on himself. Then he blows a hole in Volkov's head. Fox manages to get the DEUS offline in the meantime, resolving the story. At the end, the Minister of Science shows back up, furious that the soldiers have nothing to turn over. The Russian General punches him in the face and than asks for Political Asylum.Blake Czirrhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01383413707498458320noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3459131702457723175.post-90570655520657224692013-10-25T10:02:00.003-05:002013-10-25T10:02:49.186-05:00Marvel's Guide To Destroying Time

I rarely criticize Marvel, DC, and the many independent superhero comic books publishers. That's a slogan I've followed for four decades and still believe is important. If you want to see good art, strong stories, and great events in the future, they have to be supported with positive encouragement.

There's two reasons why I won't, typically, speak negative about them. First, the "suspension of disbelief" is inferred. Complaining that "a story about a hero with powers not being true to physics because he beat the villain by doing something that shouldn't work" is disingenuous. You have to assume a) the character's powers are possible, and b) the character then performed impossibly. And so why stop there? It's all not true; you probably shouldn't be following comic books.

Second, comic books writers like to leave loose ends. I've often been confused by some element appearing in one issue that conflicts with another. Maybe a villain has two completely different origins (also known as a retcon) or perhaps an extremely powerful superhero is toned down when facing another favorite (take, for example, a match-up between Batman and Superman or Spider-Man and Hulk). This happens a lot. But the key is to be patient; most of the time the reasons are explained in a later issue; sometimes, the answer can be part of big event. And that's when I say Whew! glad I waited.

This time, unfortunately, will not be one of those times. I'll let you decide if I'm acting too soon.

My accusation involves Marvel Comics, the Timestream, and their mishandling of Time Travel. It starts with the Marvel NOW! event from October 2012 with their release of All-New X-Men #1 (2012), moves through the Age of Ultron event, and continue on to this day while following the Age of Ultron Aftermath and the Battle of The Atom story arcs. It might not be a coincidence that mutants are all involved here, but that's not important for the purpose of my argument.

The problem is how Marvel is screwing with time. It's so bad now that temporal problems are spreading everywhere:

In All-New X-Men #1 (2012), Beast snatches the early versions of Iceman, Beast, Cyclops, Angel, and Marvel Girl. Bringing them to the present, his goal is to reform our time's Cyclops with the original concepts of the late Professor X. The problem here is known as a paradox. If you remove a person from the past, he is no longer in the present. Present-day Beast should have disappeared immediately; Cyclops, as well. Mutantkind would be dramatically different if the original X-Men were gone.

In Age of Ultron #1 (2013), we learn Ultron destroyed our populations from the future. Although intuitively this could be a paradox, it can be conceivable that a brilliant machine, watching every change to his future, carefully alters the past (our timeline).

In Age of Ultron #6 (2013), Wolverine kills Henry Pym. When he (and Susan Richards) returns to his timeline, reality has changed. This is not a paradox. It could also be explained as an diverging timeline-alternate reality.

By Age of Ultron #10 (2013), Marvel shows us time is broke. Once Wolverine learned that killing Pym was a bad idea, he goes back again and stops himself. One Logan then kills the other and then heads to his present timeline. This creates another paradox, but not the one that was portrayed. The two Wolverines were from different times, not present day. Present day Wolverine (Subj. A) died and had "present day minus a few hours" Wolverine (Subj. B) return to his own time. Once A was killed, A no longer existed, but he also wouldn't have existed once B returned, because B never would have left. So guess who is REALLY in our present timeline?

A)Susan Richards A who returned to the present timeline,

B)Susan Richards B who never knew of The Age of Ultron and never left,

C)Wolverine B who experienced The Age of Ultron, decided NOT to kill Pym, returned, and

C) Wolverine C who never experienced the Age of Ultron and never left.

So guess what, we're screwed!

Let's not forget Reed Richards and The Fantastic Four. All they've been doing since creating "The Bridge" is jumping around time and space. They've been to creation, the end, and all over the place.

But okay, let's forgive them. Suspension of disbelief, right? Marvel, rightfully showed us that all this time traveling screwed us up and finally broke. Here are some of the results:

In the New Avengers title, the Illuminati are facing Incursions. These dimensional events are causing alternate Earths to be destroyed.

There's the Age of Ultron Aftermath event where Indestructible Hulk has to beat up "Chronarchists" from the future and our Galactus wants to destroy Earth-1610, part of The "Ultimate" Universe.

We just recently learned in Uncanny X-Men #13 (2013), part of Battle of The Atom, that the past versions of the five original X-Men can't return to their timeline, even if they wanted. Although the reason hasn't been officially given, we can't ignore that time has already been broken.

And then, there's the Infinity event. The ancient race known as "The Builders", who are currently credited with the creation of humans, wants to kill us in every dimension. Complete termination! They blame us for destroying the "Superflow", a device they created to make everything orderly.

As you can see, time is messed up everywhere. Can it be fixed? I assure you: it will. Brian Michael Bendis, at the helm of Infinity, is likely governing the healing of temporal mechanics. Maybe he'll make Time Travel near-impossible from now on. Maybe he'll lead Marvel in a completely thrilling and unexpected direction. It's all worth the waiting.

But it doesn't change all the violations of consistency. When Wolverine allowed Pym to live in AU#9, making sure Age of Ultron would never occur, ALL time-traveling versions should have been wiped out. In the Battle of The Atom, the past version of Cyclops almost died in X-Men: Battle of The Atom #1 (2013); at the same time, present-day Cyclops almost faded away.

What your seeing is a true conflict. Either there are two Susan Richards and Logans in New York right now, or the five original X-Men have disappeared for decades. Beast took them from the past; their present day counterparts shouldn't be here.

I'm not judging which temporal result is right or wrong. My point is to say the inconsistency is true. It may be confusing to follow all this time traveling, but once you jump on the belief bandwagon, it should be a good ride. There are three mysterious forces cursed to walk the world for eternity: They are The Phantom Stranger, The Question, and the mysterious lady known as Pandora. Together, the DC Universe knows of them as the "Trinity of Sin".

It is now present day. Pandora has emerged on the proverbial field and now decided to recover the ill-fated Pandora's Box which caused her downfall long ago. Her goal is simple: return the Seven Deadly Sins to the box. The process, however, is the problem; she will go through heroes and villains to accomplish this task, even if it means she is the unknowning pawn of a mysterious outsider who leads The Secret Society for his own purposes.
P01 Trinity War Preview - Adds awesome details to the event, but is not part of the official release. This also may have been published somewhere else, but I couldn't find it. Starring the mysterious "Pandora", the issue begins with her fate at the Rock of Eternity. She's opened the Pandora's Box, unleashed evil, and been sentenced to live eternity with two others. Together, they are named "The Trinity of Sin". The story then follows her as she moves from STAR Labs Red Room to the ARGUS Black Room, finding the Pandora Box once more. It then cuts to a scene with Justice Leagues fighting each other. The remainder of the issue is artwork for the event.
P02 Trinity of Sin: Pandora #1 - Starts The Trinity War Prelude. Pandora begins by relating her origin, how she found the Box, opened it, and unleashed the Seven Deadly Sins upon mankind. Soon after, she's summoned to the Rock of Eternity and cursed to walk the world eternally undead, witnessing the results of her act. The issue then shows her walking through the ages, then turning to the teachings of the Druids, Wizards, Healers, and multiple martial arts. It also shows her meeting Vandal Savage. It finally brings her to present day 2013 where she meets a weapons maker in Aleppo who creates her runed guns and armament. Lastly, she's confronted by one of the mages of the Rock of Eternity who begs her forgiveness, stating they were wrong to curse her. He tells her that to imprison the seven sins, she needs to reacquire the Box and have someone of Brightest or Darkest heart open it. He leaves, then she believes she knows where to go. On the last panel, the heroic "S" of Superman gives us indication of who that may be.

001 Justice League #22 - Starts the official event. Chapter 1: The Deathcard. Beginning with a young woman walking into Madame Xanadu's shop. Xanadu begins drawing cards, each one leading to a small story introducing the Trinity War. Shazam! decides to fly to Kahndaq and spread Black Adam's ashes over the soil. At the same time, Pandora approaches Superman while he is with Wonder Woman. She gives him the Box to open, but he gets hit hard from the power. Pandora quickly gets the Box away from him. While Shazam! is one his way to Kahndaq, The Justice League (JL) finds out, heading their to route him. This, in turn, alerts Amanda Waller's Justice League of America (JLD), who boards a plane to route the JL. Shazam! and Superman meet and fight it out. Soon, the whole JL appears to stop him, but they are suddenly face-to-face with the JLA who orders them to leave. Suddenly, in response to Doctor Light's power, Superman goes crazy and kills him with his heat vision. Back at Xanadu's shop, she's increasingly worried about the "Trinity War" as she "sees" events unfold. Suddenly, she's ambushed by the girl, who is really "Plastique", a member of the Secret Society. She blows up Xanadu's shop. Behind the scenes, each member of the Trinity of Sin is now active, but the person manipulating everyone is the unknown leader of the Secret Society.
002 Justice League of America #6 - Chapter 2: No Title. The fight between the JL and JLA still continues in Kahndaq until Superman creates a might backlash and says he needs to be taken in. Steve Trevor then orders his arrest. The story continues back at ARGUS where the teams are recovering from their wounds. Waller then asks Firestorm to make her Kryptonite. At the same time, Batman and Wonder Woman are with a confined Superman. Wonder Woman then tells the Caped Crusader that what really caused Doctor Light's death was when Pandora's Box was put in his hands. Batman doesn't quite believe her. In turn, Diana goes to Hephaestus, the weaponsmith of Olypus, and asks him about it. He says he didn't make it and that the Olympus Gods had Pandora open it. She then heads to Justice League Dark and asks for their help. In the final scene, Colonel Trevor walks into the chamber confining Superman and removes the controlling helmet. It then turns out to be The Question, who asks him if he wants to find out who truly killed Doctor Light.
003 Justice League Dark #22 - Chapter 3: House of Cards. Xanadu is now captive of the mysterious character leading the Secret Society, Firestorm has finally made Kryptonite, and Batman and others study Doctor Light's body, The Phantom Stranger appears. He tells them that Wonder Woman has enlisted the aid of Justice League Dark and it would be bad if they found Pandora. In Superman's captive room, however, The Question finally convices the Man of Steel to escape after showing him a newspaper clip of Dr. Psycho in the area of Kahndaq. He decides to break out. And convinces most of the remaining heroes to ignore Amanda and follow him. Wonder Woman, in the meantime, convinces Constantine and the others to join with her; they head to the House of Mystery where Zatanna, Batman, and others are waiting. There's a standoff and Woman Woman attacks The Phantom Stranger. Sides are taken, splitting up all the heroes. Wonder Woman has Zatanna teleport her team out to locate Pandora. Colonel Trevor, Batman, and others call on Constantine to stop them, but he's disappeared with Shazam! As all this is happening, Superman is getting sicker; no one knows exactly why. Madame Xanadu is still in captivity, receiving future glimpses. The stranger then tells her he has a "mole" in the Justice League.
004 Constantine #5 - Trinity War Tie-In. Shows where Constantine took Shazam! John leads Shazam! to a bar and then tricks him into turning into Billy Batson and stealing his voice which in turn steal his power. Nearly at the same time, The Flame of Cold has a demon come forth and attack John in the bar. John becomes Shazam! and fights. Together, he and Billy defeat the creature; at the same time, Billy tricks him into giving him his powers back. As Shazam! he leaves the bar, but not before Constantine warns him not to touch the box.
005 Trinity of Sin: Pandora #2 - Trinity War Tie-In. Begins with "Pride" ordering "Envy" to block Pandora as she tries to remove them from the world. The next phase of the story has Agents Kincaid of SHADE and Chang of ARGUS working together and merging their files on Pandora. Back at the site where Pandora encountered Superman, members of the Secret Society, Giganta, Signalman, and Vandal Savage are attempting to track her down. She finds them before they find her and takes them out, except for Savage. They fight to the death, which means nothing to immortals, and she gives Vandal the Box, thinking he may have a heart of darkest evil. He doesn't and collapses under its power.
006 Trinity of Sin: Phantom Stranger #11 - Trinity War Tie-In. The Phantom Stranger leads Batman, Katana, and Deadman with him through heavenly realms. On their journey, the humans are drawn into their own versions of heaven, but the Stranger rescues them until they are finally in front of Doctor Light. Arthur doesn't remember anything useful to them and the Stranger vows to return him to the living. Suddenly, Zauriel and his angels intervene and send Doctor Light forward into the afterlife, and begin to banish Phantom Stranger forever.
007 Justice League of America #7 - Chapter 4. Opening with Lex Luthor, his lawyers say they could have him out of prison within the day. He's not concerned, though, because he knows someone set Superman up. Soon after, Pandora shows up. She wants to hand him the Box. Elsewhere, there are two divisions: Green Arrow, Superman, and teammates go after Doctor Psycho. They learn he's part of the Secret Society, but didn't mess with the Man of Steel. The Atom also admits that Waller created the JLA to replace the JL. The other team is headed by Wonder Woman with her group. They confront Lex as he's about to receive the Box. By the end of the issue, things go to worse. Wonder Woman is now under the Box's control.
008 Trinity of Sin: Pandora #3 - Trinity War Tie-In. Occurring within the military installation holding Lex Luthor, the Justice "Leagues" are fighting amongst themselves as Pandora watches. The issue goes through many chapters of her history as she tries to understand how to defeat the Seven Deadly Sins. By the end, she realizes that she has to embrace the concepts of evil for her weapons to affect them. In doing so, she kills Greed. And now she's ready for the next evil.
009 Justice League Dark #23 - Chapter 5. The fight at military prison for Lex Luthor continues. Wonder Woman has it, but SHAZAM! gets it. His magic interferes with it and its evil starts contaminating everyone. It continues switching hands until John Constantine gets it, teleporting out with Zatanna.. Somehow, they end up at the Temple of Hephaestus. They then go underground and find...Batman and his team, ready to strike, but also see Madame Xanadu, who can explain what's really happening. Zatanna tells them that the Box is actually a doorway. From the shadows, The Outsider muses and says she's right. He then suggests that it is time for the doorway to open.
010 Justice League #23 - Chapter 6, Final. This issue begins by explaining how The Outsider arrived to our dimension, gathered her resources and enacted. It all started at the same time as Darkseid's siege. The battle of heroes then subsides; Firestorm realizes that it isn't evil affecting Superman, it's a sliver of Kryptonite in his brain. The Atom admits she's a traitor, putting it there. Suddenly Cyborg's armor pulls away, calling itself Grid, and leaving Victor Stone near death. The Outsider activates the Box, saying it is an object of science from his dimension, the Birthplace of Evil! As the energies sway and circle, The Crime Syndicate emerges!
Is that Earth? (You bet it is!)

Left: After all that temporal back and forth in Age of Ultron, we broke time. Picture excerpt from Age of Ultron #10 (2013) .

A small crossover of issues, barely noticeable, occurred after one of Marvel's biggest super-villains took over the Earth. Somehow, it was quiet among the events of Marvel NOW! and took place after the end of The Age of Ultron. That's why we call it The Age of Ultron Aftermath, or AUA. It reads as a side-story, an epilogue, almost as if the results are barely significant. But in reality, it's the most major event of 2013.

And you think this is a joke? Heck no! Although a Reading Order is provided here, there's huge implications and leads also presented. This page will contain the artwork and detailed summaries provided at the end. It will also, however, explain how completely chaotic the next few years may be.

"By Odin's Beard!", Thor might say, because the true Age of Ultron Aftermath could be the final straw that broke the camel's back!

It's a 10-issue arc that's easily self-contained, with some Tie-Ins and additions for a detailed experience. If that's too much, just read the panel above. Basically, to beat Ultron, the Avengers had to do some serious time-traveling. As a result, the space-time continuum was broken.

Age of Ultron #10, specifically, shows us three aftereffects.

Galactus Appears in the Marvel "Ultimate" Universe. (Earth-1610)

"Angela", a character from Todd McFarlene's Spawn series, appears in our Universe (Earth-616)

Hank Pym believes he's solved his AI corruption problem and begins working on the project again.

Marvel only gave us three previews from that issue, but far more occurred; the overreaching implications continued into many other titles. In respects to those stories, The Reading Order below will also contain those titles; their descriptions will be place in the detailed summaries.
Age of Ultron #10AI - This is an official Age of Ultron issue, but unofficially falls in the Aftermath event. Centered on the perspective on Henry Pym, he reexamines his entire
life, showing us his origins and history from child to gifted scientist
to original Avenger. Throughout the issue, Pym keeps telling himself his
life wouldn't have make a difference, but after some thoughts, he
realizes he is very wrong: life would have been apocalypse had he not
existed. He now decides to continue his ways as a superhero, using his
science to aid his powers and create an inspiring career. In the final
pages of this issue, though, Henry recognizes that he is not done with
the advancement of artificial intelligence. From one of his lab's
holding cubes, he withdraws the functional head of a Doombot, preparing
to reprogram it. "This", states Pym, will show the world that he means
business.
Indestructible Hulk #11 - Unofficially begins this chapter of the aftermath event. Officially, it starts in the next issue. Recognizing that something wrong is occurring in the timestream, Maria Hill enlists Banner to join a top-ultra-secret part of their organization known as TIME. This all occurs on the heels of Hulk's last mission where an airport simply "disappeared"; other random items have also vanished, causing SHIELD fear that a temporal problem is occurring. Banner is then introduced to his team and a prisoner named Zarrko, The Tomorrow Man. Zarrko has been informing SHIELD of the problems to come; most of his predictions have been wrong...until recently. The Tomorrow Man now explains "chronarchist" - time travelers bent on chaos - are changing time and that he can provide a suit to stop them. The caveat is that only The Hulk would be able to withstand the timestream in it. At first, Banner laughs at sending the Hulk into such a delicate matter, but then Zarrko asks what happened to Betty Ross. That's when Bruce realizes she might be one of the casualties of the disappearance. He agrees to go and SHIELD equips him with a Banner AI backup, allowing Hulk to travel with his intellectual counterpart. Now prepared, he jumps into the timestream and arrives in 1873 Arizona. Cowboy and Indians. And, oh yes, that Tyrannosaurus Rex running straight for him..
Indestructible Hulk #12 - Officially starts this subevent. The "Cowboys" the Hulk meets are The Rawhide Kid, The Two-Gun Kid, and Kid Colt. While our green giant fights the T-Rex, the Banner-Bot asks them how the creature got here. They inform him that a new "sheriff" came into town and word has it that he's riding weird horses. Their destination is Silver Rock; heading there, the mission becomes a quest to take out Tok Baltisar, a 23rd Century Scientist, armed with tech and dinosaurs. The Hulk smashes, while the three gunmen attempt to lay down fire. The Banner-Bot realizes that the silver in the Silver Rock Mountain has actually been transformed into a chrono-metric metal and must be destroyed. He leads Hulk inside and has the gargantuan destroy the mountain, but not before the metal activates his armor, throwing them into the timestream again and landing them into the age of Lost Camelot. ...Eh...Lost Camelot? Oh Boy...
Indestructible Hulk #13 - Continues from issue #12. Hulk and the Banner-Bot are now in Europe in the once-realm of Camelot. Unfortunately, it's not Camelot anymore. During Hulk's rampage, Merlin banishes him away and King Arthur explains that some being came, took over his castle and aged most of his knights. With the Black Knight and the remaining forces of King Arthur, Hulk and Banner-Bot fight their way through hordes of time-misplaced warriors and armaments, into the halls of the castle to face, Valdar Ahd of the Chronarchists. Valdar freezes Black Knight, but is unable to stop Hulk. Instead he uses his aging ray. In Hulk's charge, he begins to slowly die. Suddenly, Banner-Bot has Merlin teleport Black Knight's Ebony Blade into his green hands. It slices through time. Hulk attempts to hit Valdar, but the being causes him to drop the Blade. The Black Knight quickly regains his weapon and strikes Valdar down, causing all the time distortions in this area to vanish. Banner-Bot now decides it's time to go; he attempts to aggravate Hulk, but Hulk is now smarter. As Banner-Bot attempts to decide where to take them, the issue shows us a teaser of the last Chronarchist, devising a plan to destroy Hulk by changing the Gamma Bomb Test Site where he was created.
Indestructible Hulk #14 - Continues from issue #13. Now
transforming into various incarnations throughout his history, Hulk is
going through chronal roadblocks, fighting opponents like Abomination,
Sandman, and Fin Fang Foom, as his ROB (Bot) unit attempts to locate the
last Chronarchist. Unrevealed until now, this one is tampering at the
point of Hulk's origin. Even worse, it turns out Zarrko, prisoner of
SHIELD, is secretly organizing the whole crime. It starts all over
again; Banner heads out to warn Rick Jones. But this time Hulk appears,
throwing him in the trench. The ROB unit, about to lose its conscious,
downloads itself into the Banner of this time. He then warns Rick,
turning to face a Hulk TWICE irradiated by the same bomb!
Indestructible Hulk #15 - Continues from issue #14. This just got really messed up. The Hulk is now "Hulk-squared", a being now twice-irradiated. At the same time, this time's Banner has been downloaded with the future Banner's conscious. While the creature battles the army, Banner finds out that Zarrko betrayed and used him. His only recourse is to use his brain. He grabs Khotta and sends them both back in time a few minutes where the bomb goes off again. There's still a Hulk-Squared monster, but now Banner has his own Hulk options. Going green, he grabs a piece of the chrono-metal and strikes the viewscreen, literally yanking Zarrko through the timeline to him. As negatron emission attempt to reconcile the rift, Hulk rips the armor off Khotto and sends both of the Chrono-villains into it. Almost unable to save himself, he's grabbed by a red hand. Betty is back, pulling him to safety. Things are now safe as Banner goes over the events 24 hours later, but he can't help but think something wrong may have gone differently in the past.

Hunger #1 - Starts the Galactus sub-event. Part of the Marvel Ultimate Universe; this is a distinctly different reality designated as Earth-1610. All the characters in this universe are referred to as "Ultimate" in their titles. Rick Jones has been chosen as this universes' ultimate protector, given his powers by a mysterious alien known as "The Watcher". Unfortunately, he just wants to eat a burger. The story starts off as Rick comes to Earth seeking nothing more than good fast food. But during his order, The Watcher appears saying he is needed immediately. Rick is then teleported right into the middle of a Chitauri-Kree space battle. The Watcher shows Rick what's happening on the main decks until suddenly, the Kree spot the "Gah Lak Tus" swarm. Communicating with The Chitauri leader, they offer immediate peace to halt the devouring creatures. The Chitauri officer will have none of it, though, and refuses to break off his attacks. The Watcher then shows Rick the true problem; as a result of (Age of Ultron) temporal breakdowns, the universe breaks and a portal is created. From this space-opening, the Earth-616 Galactus appears. Everyone is now in turmoil; the Gah Lak Tus swarms make a beeline for the huge, cosmic being; instead of eating him, though, they merge with their alternate reality counterpart. Left behind is a newer, more powerful Galactus, and his hunger has increased a thousand-fold.
Hunger #2 - Continues from issue #1. As Galactus has moved into this universe, it's version of The Silver Surfer becomes of aware of the deathly power and surfs toward it. Rick Jones, meanwhile, is on a Chitauri-occupied planet attempting to triage with Kree and Chitauri working together. Again, The Watcher appears, alerting him to trouble. On the planet's horizon, they see the huge, luminous figure of Galactus. Rick goes into battle, but is hit by swarming devourers until Silver Surfers shows up and makes a quick rescue. Together they use their powers and hold the attack off. Spotting a Kree Ship flying away, Rick teleports to its bridge, only to learn that the Commander isn't running, but preparing to blow up the nearby star systems in hopes to destroy Galactus. At the same time, Galactus recognizes this version of Silver Surfer and a small communion takes place; the Surfer senses his inevitable hunger, feeling fear. Shortly after the realization, the star systems explode. Rick and Surfer are now on Earth, having teleported before the destruction. Both of them sense that Galactus survived. And accidentally, part of the swarm teleported with them, dooming the planet.
Hunger #3 - Continues immediately. As Rick Jones and Surfer are fighting the Earth-traveled swarm, Captain Marvel is alerted to the presence of the Gah Lak Tus swarm. He flies towards battle, joins them, and uses uses one of his weapons to destroy the creature. They all introduce themselves, but Rick has had enough; he decides to qut, leaving Surfer and Captain Marvel to head towards Galactus who is now near Hala. Once there, Marvel is stunned; this is nothing like the Gah Lak Tus he has studied all his life. He tries some of his weapons, but they do not work. Suddenly Rick Jones appears again; The Watcher, in the past few hours, has showed him that Peter Parker, Spider-Man, was killed, reminding Jones that he promised to do go things. Upon Rick's arrival, he unleashes a powerful attack on Galactus. It clearly causes some damage, surprising the entity. The swarm then heads towards Rick, but Marvel flies him out of the way, taking damage on himself. They teleport down to the surface of Hala; Marvel tells them he has another, incredibly powerful weapon that might work, but dies before he can use it. Rick Jones then dons Marvel's armor, preparing to use the weapon himself.
Hunger #4 - Last issue of this story arc, continues from issue #3. Having the armor, Rick attacks Galactus, gaining his attention. He almost uses the killer weapon, but realizes it would create 32 million casualties. His first mission is to get the remaining Hala ark away. Using his teleportation powers, with distraction, he does so, saving the refugees. Landing on the devourer's hand, Rick realizes where he can take Galactus. He teleports them both and unleashes the killer weapon. The swarm is now dead and Hala is safe. Thought to be dead, Rick now learns he blew a hole between universes, outside reality. The Watcher tells him there is more to be done before he can return, but the being, Galactus, is still alive although wounded. He is heading towards Earth (Earth-1610), but that is no longer Rick's problem.
October 21, 2013: In response to the emails and requests in the last week, I've added the X-Men: Battle of The Atom Reading Order and Summary Page. It's basically a two-month shot because it started in September and will end the last week in October 2013.

Here's a quick summary if you haven't been follow (non-spoiler version): The All-New X-Men is a title that's been out since Marvel NOW! 2012; it features the original five X-Men consisting of Scott, Warren, Jean Grey, Bobby, and Hank, being teleport to our present day by our furry-lovin Beast. His goal is to use these teenagers as symbols to show our current mutants how to live in harmony.

But this event shows that messing with the time-space continuum can cause some very hazardous side effects; that's exactly what you'll find out as characters from the future appear, attempting to right some wrongs.

It's crazy, but then...it's The X-Men. You'll get your taste of Wolverine, Cyclops, Emma Frost, and some unlikely characters that you'd never expect. Read it now!
What happens when an artificial intelligence destroys the world, most of our inhabitants, and puts the superheroes on the wanted list? Well it's happened, true believers! Signing up with writer Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel Comics has brought back Ultron, one of their greatest super-villains, to put teams like The Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men on notice. Called Age of Ultron, this major event has crossovers and tie-ins that will last for four months.

Premise: The villain wins. It's the day after - Ultron waged a surprise attack and takes over. The heroes - what's left of them - are surviving underground. Spider-Man and Hawkeye in New York City, Black Widow and Moon Knight in San Francisco, and Black Panther and Red Hulk in Chicago. The Invisible Woman and Wolverine are also working together as bands of heroes come together to survive the nightmare. The question now does a superhero do? How does he or she act with this level of oppression and psychological despair?

Greetings, This is the Reading and Summary Page for Age of Ultron. It will contain a Reading Order, Checklist, Summaries, and a limited scope of artword surrounding the event. It's built in a news-tiered format so that the further you go, the more details you're going to get. So spoil yourself as needed.
Disclaimer: The Reading Order is now final.

10/12/2013 - Dang it! I missed the finalization to the Reading Order itself. Thanks to juank-pipoca and Pocketsnb for fixing my FUZZY logic. You guys hooked me up! Thanks again!

09/10/2013 - Greetings Everybody! This event has concluded. Due
to some unfortunate circumstances, I let some of the reading order slip,
but I came back today to finish it up and make things right! Sorry for
the inconvenience.
06/05/2013 - This week's issue is installed.
05/23/2013 - Two issues released this week; they account for events in the newly Pym-killed era. They have been implemented.
05/16/2013 - One issue released this week. It's been implemented into the list.
05/09/2013 - Updated this week's release. This issue, Avengers Assemble #15AU is best after issue #14; it also shows some of the immediate aftermath and response.
05/02/2013 - Updated this week's release. The Reading Order is holding firm.
04/18/2013 - Updated the issues for this week, noting that the
Reading Order doesn't follow the recommended order in the issue. That's
because of spoilers. If you read Wolverine and The X-Men #27AU, it won't make sense. You have to read Age of Ultron #6 to understand why those events took place.
04/12/2013 - I've implemented Avengers Assemble #14AU to
the Reading Order today, but I've been a little skeptical on where to
place it. It's actually the first issue, chronologically, but you have
to give Age of Ultron #1 precedence because it sets the tone of the event. So here goes; hope you like it!
04/11/2013 - Added the two issues for this week. Anything else I
say now will spoil the intentions of "future me", who is controlling me
in the present.
04/04/2013 - This week is updated and you should be aware that
the Marvel has already released a spoiler for the ending (Avengers A.I.)
which will consist of a hero-robotic superteam. That said, I'm
surprised that AU is only affecting a few titles and such a small event.
Obviously, there's going to be a time-traveling component - meaning
nothing actually happened - but elsewhere in the Marvel Universe, it's
business as usual.
03/28/2013 - Implemented the issues for this week. It's still
kinda weird that two of the issues are also part of the Marvel NOW!
event. It won't mess up this Reading Order, but it'll play games with
that one. It will also be interesting to see how this plays out. Someone
will probably go back in time...
03/14/2013 - The second issue comes out, fleshing the plot. Well worth the read. Implemented it into the Reading and Summaries today.
03/07/2013 - I know people were pretty excited about AU and it
was worth it. I've updated this week's release and will do a few
write-ups at the website. Everything is running smoothly. Also, it's
important to note that this doesn't appear to be coordinating with
Marvel NOW!.
03/04/2013 - Created this Summary and Landing Page for the event. And now it's ready to rock and roll.

P001 Marvel Point One 2011 (Released 2011 November. As we moved into 2012 we were in the midst of waiting for the Avengers vs. X-Men
event and the return of The Phoenix. This issue, comprised of a series
of short stories, showed us one glimpse of Age of Ultron.)

Comprised of a series of short stories where a meditating Watcher is encountered in his resting chambers, the observers belong to a group called "The Unseen" see multiple upcoming futures. One of them involves the Age of Ultron, showing Spider-Man and Hawkeye attempting to survive in New York City as Ultron robots surround them.

This issue, in total, represents seven short stories - future glimpses, of what Marvel had prepared by late 2011.
1. "Behold The Watcher", which framed the entire stories and includes a plot by an unknown villainous group.
2. "Harbinger", showing us the return of Nova, the coming of The Phoenix Force, and the prelude to Avengers vs. X-Men event.
3. "The Myth of Man", introducing us to the alternate universe Age of Apocalypse.
4. "The Scarlet Thread", introducing us to The Scarlet Spider and his new title series.
5. "Yin & Yang", introducing us to two new super-powers humans, Coldmoon and Dragonfire.
6. "The Shaman of Greenwich Village", reintroducing Doctor Strange, The Defenders, and their plot.
7. "Age of Ultron", a prelude look at the major Marvel upcoming event.

P002 Avengers Age Of Ultron Point One FCBD 2012 (May 2012.The
first Saturday of May is always Free Comic Book Day, or FCBD. In 2012,
Marvel released this issue, giving us an idea to when, and how, Ultron
returns to earth.)

Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman had disappeared after following the trail of an alien energy signature. It turned out to be the body of a deceased SpaceKnight already captured by a super-villainous group of geniuses called "The Intelligencia". Capturing Spider-Woman, The Avengers head to her location, meet the bad guys, and start beating them up. Once they find the SpaceKnight, though, it mysteriously activates and turns into Ultron! A sentient Artificial Intelligence, it realizes it is not ready and teleports itself away from the battle. The team is confused by Ultron's latest appearance, but Tony Stark tells them to prepare for Apocalypse, because Ultron will come back and destroy mankind in a future he has already seen.

Analysis: Although the details are sketchy at first, the starting
point begins with earth having been decimated by Ultron's attack. There
are survivors, but it's a kill or be killed psychology that keeps you
alive. Hiding and avoiding detection is a primary skill. This is no
longer about simple good guys and bad guys; their morals are the only
thing dividing them...and those are questionable as you'll soon see.

001 Age of Ultron #1 (Starts the event. As the issue opens
up, we are in an apocalyptic United States where Hawkeye is trying to
rescue Spider-Man from the clutches of Hammerhead and The Owl. The bad
guys have captured Spidey to use him as a payment to Ultron. Hawkeye now
is taking no prisoners; he's using his arrows to kill people who get in
his way. Finally reaching Parker, who is bleeding and tied to a chair,
both heroes and villains are caught off guard as Ultron forces surround
the premises. Causing an explosion, the heroes manage to get away and
head to a secret hideout. They're ambushed by Luke Cage and She-Hulk; it
turns out that Hawkeye is an ally to them both, but left the lair
against their warnings to rescue Spider-Man. Tony Stark comes forth in a
unique signature outfit, presumably to hide him against detections, and
scans the two intruders for Ultron virus intrusions. Clean, he allows
them in the lair, where they argue about rescuing Parker, being
followed, and surviving to another day. The discussion then goes to a
plan, which at the end focuses on one man, Captain America. Brooding in a
corner, we see the American patriot, disheveled and quiet.)
002 Avengers Assemble #14AU (Officially, this issue isn't
released until Age of Ultron #5. For Reading Order purposes, it's placed
here, after the initial shock of Age of Ultron #1, and perfect for
story flow. This is the blockbuster issue of the event so far and
actually happens before all other issues in this chronology. However, to
place it first spoils the introduction to the event. Centering on The
Black Widow; Natasha is in San Francisco when she becomes aware that
Ultron is taking over the world. It starts with strange news, then
everything goes black and scary. Soon, they're all fleeing like
terrified rabbits. Anything with technology is being used by Ultron to
locate human so he can kill them. Natasha flees into the sewers with
survivors, but Ultron's also ready down there; he kills them with gas.
Natasha flees, but not before her friend with a Stark prosthetic arm
slashes her face, removing her eye. Now controlled by Ultron, he has to
kill him too. She finally makes it to a SHIELD safehouse, finding Marc
Spector, The Moon Knight. Ultron has won; now they have to figure out
their next move.)
003 Avengers Assemble #15AU (Best placed here after Avengers Assemble #14AU.
Carol Danvers aka Captain Marval, stars in this issue with Captain
Britain and Faiza Hussein aka Excalibur. Trapped in London, Carol is
unable to use her flying powers and teams up with Captain Britain and an
80s hero named Computer Graham. They head to St. Paul and take on
Ultron as Graham goes into its program. In the battle, all the heroes
fall, but Graham manages to cause a severe explosion which gives
Excalibur and Black Knight - Britain's two remaining heroes who left
behind - the ability to call on other resources and fight another day.)
004 Age of Ultron #2 (Continues from Age of Ultron #1.
Starting with San Francisco, we learn that Natasha Romanoff aka Black
Widow and Marc Spector aka Moon Knight have survived. Somehow their
Black Ops routine pulled them out of the harm. Now, they reside in one
of Nick Fury's hideouts, off the grid from any technology. The story
then cuts back to Peter Parker, explaining his story to the rest of the
heroes in New York. He explains how he woke up to the city under attack.
We also learn that DC has been destroyed and probably the entire planet
has been taken over. The heroes question what Ultron would want with
Spider-Man when termination is it's ultimate purpose. But by the end,
Captain America rises and says he now has a plan.)
005 Fantastic Four #5AU (Continues from Age of Ultron #3 and Fantastic Four #5.
In the future, Franklin and Valeria wake up to strangeness on their
vessal. Everyone is gone. They venture down to a compartment and a
message plays out with the members of the Fantastic Four leaving them
messages. The story also cuts to flashbacks where the Fantastic Four get
a call from The Black Panther to return. Once they get there, the
Baxter Building has been leveled. Ultron robots immediately come after
them and Johnny is killed while the rest escape. In sequence, Ben is
killed hours later, then Reed. Sue is buried under rubble for three days
and is rescued by She-Hulk. Back in the future, Valeria and Franklin
now learn that they have to go on by themselves, but Franklin receives a
special vision from his mother that everything will be alright and that
she will return someday.)
006 Superior Spider-Man #6AU (Continues from Age of Ultron #3, before Luke and She-Hulk leave, but after Sue Richards is part of underground team.
It's now official that this is the Doc Ock Superior Spider-Man in the
Age of Ultron event. After examining the wreck of New York, he blames
Parker for being so weak until he took over his body. Stark offer
consolence, then tells him of a plan with Quicksilver where they can get
Negative Zone tech from Horizon Labs. Spidey agrees to go, but once
inside he tries his own "superior" plan, thinking he can gain control
over all the Ultron tech. It works at first, until he learns that Ultron
isn't controlling the tech and is actually secured somewhere else,
externally. While exerting his technical controls, Spidey is attacked by
Ultron's consciousness. He barely escapes and then tries to grab the
Negative Zone tech. Unfortunately, the Ultron robots destroy it and he
returns to Stark's hideout empty-handed.)
007 Age of Ultron #3 (Continues shortly after Age of Ultron #3, but officially occurs after Superior Spider-Man #6AU.
Starting out, Luke Cage and She-Hulk are out in the city. He knocks her
out, according to their "plan". Then the issue flashbacks where Captain
America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and others debate Cap's plan. They now
know Ultron is bargaining for superheroes. Exploiting that weakness,
they decide to send in She-Hulk with Cage as her seller. The story also
cuts to Chicago where we see Red Hulk, The Black Panther, and
Taskmaster, scouting through the wrecked city. Once they spot and
Ultron, Red Hulk attacks and rips its head off. Unfortunatly, other
Ultrons are nearby and begin attacking. Red Hulk throws the head to the
other two and they run off, but before they can escape, Black Panther is
killed. Taskmaster ultimately escapes with Ultron's metal cranium. In
the last few shots, the surprise of the issue reveals who is making the
deals. Instead of Luke Cage meeting Ultron, he's face to face with the
torso of The Vision!)

008 Age of Ultron #4 (Occurs almost immediately after Age of Ultron #3.
Facing The Vision, once a member of The Avengers, Cage begins asking to
see Ultron. That's when he's informed that the mastermind is
controlling this world from the future. Almost seemingly in response,
agony shoots through the android as he tells our hero. She-Hulk then
jumps into action, hearing enough. She throws Cage clear of the lair and
begins attacking. Shortly thereafter, though, she's killed. The Ultron
robots go after Cage, but fortunately his unbreakable skin can take the
damage. Being merciless automatons, they calculate this and unleash a
nuclear blast on him. The story then skips around and then focuses on
what's left of the heroes in Manhattan. Using Storm and Invisible
Woman's skills, they fly over the city to The Savage Land. Once there,
Ka-Zar finds them and takes them to a makeshift village. Cage is there,
but dies within moments of their arrival. Using her telepathic abilities
before his demise, Emma Frost finds out that Ultron is in the future
and informs the rest of the group. At the end, Black Widow, Moon Knight,
and Red Hulk also arrive in the city. The former two have been hiding
in San Francisco...and they have a plan from Nick Fury that could save
the human race.)
009 Ultron #1AU (There is no defined time in this issue, but
we can see that Ultron has already struck and continues patrols to hunt
for humans. Based on the release schedule, it's plausible here. This
issue drives from the main plot and centers on Victor Mancha, son of
Ultron, former member of The Runaways, and a cyborg. The last survivor
of his team, his story takes him through Los Angeles. Ultron has already
hit the area hard and Victor is attempting to help survivors the best
he can. He's managed to create a hideaway for his small gang, but at the
end, the Ultron patrols find it. Most of this is psychological,
focusing on Victor's destiny to destroy the human race...and his
defiance of that mandate.)
010 Age of Ultron #5 (Continues from Age of Ultron #4, after a short time period.
The remaining heroes, now gathered in the Savage Land, trek to Fury's
hideout and open it, finding the former Director of SHIELD within. After
brief explanations, he reveals that he has a version of Dr. Doom's time
machine and plans to send a team into the future to stop Ultron. The
rest is...or will be, history. They split into two forces: one jumps
into the future and the other stays to guard their location. Wolverine,
though, takes matters into his own hand at the end: he tells those
remaining to fire up the machine once more and send him back to the past
where he can kill Hank Pym, Ultron's creator!)
011 Age of Ultron #6 (Technically, this continues from
Wolverine and The X-Men #27AU. Reading that issue first, however, makes
no sense. It's best after Age of Ultron #5. Now separated into two
missions, Wolverine heads into the past to kill Pym and Nick Fury's team
heads into the future to stop Ultron. Soon after, though, both realize
Sue Richards deviated from the plan: she followed Logan. The Savage Land
of the future is incredibly beautiful and Nick Fury's group heads
towards the Eastern Seaboard; once there, they encounter an incredible
and awesome technological landscape. Unfortunately, it's devoid of human
life. As the heroes approach, bots begin attacking. They battle
valiantly, but some - maybe all - of them appear to die; we're not sure
yet. In the past, Logan and Sue find a SHIELD flying car and steal it
off the past version of Fury. They take it to New York where Logan finds
Pym, just as he's inspired for the Ultron invention. As Wolverine
strikes, though, Susan stops him from the killing blow. He reminds her
of all the deaths and she releases him. Pym is skewered and dies. One
mission appears to fail and the other succeeds, the question now becomes
"What awaits us in the present?".)
012 Wolverine and The X-Men #27AU (According the the
information in the issue, this should be read before Age of Ultron #6.
The problem, though, is that you'll never know why Sue Richards followed
Wolverine into the past. That's why this is best placed here. While
Sue and Logan travel to New York, their SHIELD flying car breaks down.
They locate a SHIELD substation and stealthily make their way through,
forewarned about messing up things in the past. They split up and things
go bad. Wolverine sees an imprisoned creature and frees it. It turns
out to a deadly Brood alien. It infects him, but he slices it out of his
stomach. That's when the creature adapts and upgrades itself for future
infestation. Meanwhile, Sue stumbles upon a spying station and notices
that Reed is being watched. She speaks through an intercom and warns
him. After getting a needed component, they meet back up and fly off to
find Pym. The implications, now, are uncertain; each has secretly
tampered with the past.)
013 Age of Ultron #7 (Continues from Wolverine and The X-Men #27AU.
The assassination committed, Logan and Sue return to the future. The
world is no longer Ultron-overwhelmed, but things are much different.
When they arrive in New York, they are met by a force calling themselves
The Defenders. Led by Dr. Strange and Colonel America, a strange Nick
Fury-Captain America hybrid hero, they believe them to be Skrull
Imposters and attack. Logan takes out his Wolverine counterpart, but
they are eventually stopped and knocked out. And out of the sky comes
the most surprising figure of this version of the present: Tony Stark.
He's no longer the Iron Man we once knew.)
014 Age of Ultron #8 (Continues from Age of Ultron #7, immediately.
After downloading and studying their memories, this era's version of
Tony Stark realizes an alternate path has unfolded and he is amazed. A
brief conversation with other operatives of SHIELD, Xavier and Frost,
suggest to him that this is no trick, but absolute truth. Stark attempts
to go through a list of alternatives with Logan, but it does no good.
Meanwhile, also on the helicarrier, the Defenders are getting upset; The
Thing wants to talk to Susan Richards and Wolverine wants to meet his
alternate self. They decide to break past guards to Susan; turning
invisible, she escapes while everyone is in turmoil. Suddenly, alarms go
off; everyone is alerted: Morgan Le Fay is attacking in what could be
this timeline's ultimate battle. The Defenders take to the battle, Stark
included, but the invasion appears to be succeeding. In the last
moments of the issue, one of the helicarriers crash into another.)
015 Uncanny Avengers #8AU (Continues in the new age created from Wolverine's assassination of Henry Pym, but belongs here to keep spoilers out.
Following Kang and the Apocalypse Twins, he teaches them that they need
to kill Colonel America to assure their victory. They encounter him as
he is below ground attempting to negotiate with Havok and Rogue. The
twins strike, but Captain America is quick to respond, he flees. As they
attempt to track him, Havok and Rogue attempt to make them stand down.
In return, the twins fight them and end up killing them. Before Rogue
dies, she steals Uriel's memories and tells him of Kang's treachery.
Colonel America has gotten away, but Kang considers it a learning
experience anyhow. He shows the twins his trophy room and the weapon,
Jarnbjorn which will be important later.)
016 Fearless Defenders #4AU (Continues in the new age created through Henry Pym's death, but belongs here so as to keep out spoilers.
The Defenders inform Hippolyta that Doom was part of the death of the
Amazons, causing her and Caroline Le Fey to travel to Latveria, where
they appear to be captured. It's all part of their plan. In the War
Pits, Doom has Misty Knight and scores of super-powered women attack,
but before the battle can take further shape, she throws a dart as
Doom's head and reveals a bot. Then Ares, her father comes out of the
shadows and they fight. Hippolyta takes Ares down, but refuses to kill
him. At the end, she commands all the woman to fight under her as the
new Amazons.)
017 Age of Ultron #9 (Continues from Age of Ultron #8, but waits for post-Pym events to be revealed.
With the destruction wrought by Morgan Le Fey, Wolverine is one of the
only survivors of the crash. He slashes his way through enemy forces,
finds the traveling device, and returns to the era where he is just
about to kill Pym. Once there, he stops himself from killing Hank. They
argue, but then it is decided to let him live. With the Susan Richards
from that era, they incorporate a plan before returning to their
original time; hopefully Pym will succeed in installing a virus code to
activate at the moment of near-extinction. Both Wolverines, now in the
present, represent a paradox. Determining which is better to remain, one
kills the other.)
018 Age of Ultron #10 ( Continues in the alternate, newly-created timestream. Best placed here.
Having identified a future of Ultron's control, Pym creates the virus
and a video for himself, and is then conditioned to forget the whole
incident with Wolverine and Susan Storm. At the beginning of this issue,
it's a few month's back when the video appears on his doorstep. He
plays it and learns the horrible truth. From there, he interferes in the
events in Avengers: Age of Ultron FCBD (2012) by comm-linking in
on the team and informing them on how to take out the killer robot.
Stark activates a distracting back door Trojan Horse code, and while
Ultron works on defeating it, the virus is triggered, shutting Ultron
down and foiling his future plans.

In the final pages...
...Susan Storm and Wolverine meet and share a hug. Their gratefulness
genuine until something...extremely wrong...occurs. The Space-Time
Continuum is now, finally broken. Events are going awry, including the
appearance of Angela.
"This" states Pym, will show the world that he means
business.
~Excerpt from Avengers The Enemy Within #1 (2013).

Analysis: The Enemy Within is a 5-part story arc which loosely follows The Avengers, but mainly focuses on Ms. Marvel. She's already been diagnosed with a lesion on her brain in her own title series and this picks up from there. As a consequence, she's supposed to avoid flying; breaking that essential rule could cause her death.

Avengers The Enemy Within #1 (Starts the story arc. Rose, a disabled, elderly character in the Ms. Marvel stories, is missing. With Spider-Woman acting as a sort of babysitter, Carol and her embark on a quest to find the lady. At the same time, Carol is unable to fly...simultaneously, someone is manipulating her from the background, throwing obstacles in her path. As tempers flare due to her restrictions, three super-hero wrestler-ladies attack. Ms. Marvel and Spider-Woman defeat them, but not before tricking Carol into flying. At the end, one of the wrestlers give them a clue to where Rose is held; Ms. Marvel races there with Thor and finds two dinosaurs guarding the lady. Taken down, Rose is then rescued. When Carol arrives back at her apartment, she's worried that a clue she recovered suggests something is happening to the rest of the residents. She has them evacuated, but finds that only her room has been tampered. Someone is clearly raising the stakes in this manipulative game, and now Ms. Marvel is mad. We know that it's an old nemesis, Yon-Rogg, behind all this; he has stolen parts of her Psyche-Magnitron, the device which empowered her.)
Avengers Assemble #16 (Chapter 2. Takes place an undisclosed time period later. On the SWORD spacestation "The Peak", a Brood force has appeared and begins descending on the planet. The Avengers go into action and begin taking out the aliens; when the fight is over, Captain Marvel and Captain America deduce that her enemy is behind this. Meanwhile, having gathered the last piece he needs of the Psyche-Magnatron, Yon-Rogg makes a plea for Kree extraction, but is ignored. Seeing he has been fully abandoned, he transforms into "Magnitron" and begins his next phase of attack. And with that activation, Kree Sentries have also activated...)
Captain Marvel #13 (Chapter 3. Occurs a brief time after the events in Avengers Assemble #16. Most of the issue covers what previously happened. Bruce Banner is brought in to Carol's apartment and all of her friends do over the data. While this is going on, Kree Sentries are attacking all over the world; Avengers are heading them off. Carol and her associates learn that a Kree signal was made during the Brood invasion; this gives her a big clue. As her Avenger's team is brought to battle, they take out the Sentries, but now she's certain she knows who the secret villain is behind all this. She heads to New York, ready for a battle.)
Avengers Assemble #17 (Chapter 4. Starts outside the New York limits. Short timespan. As Carol makes her way for the dead center of the trouble, Kree Sentries are landing in calculated locations; her allies, The Avengers, are fighting them down and taking them out, but many are arriving as fast as they can be destroyed. Ultimately, a set number of Sentries lock in their positions, suddenly creating a "star" perimeter. Carol and Captain America are in the dead center as a ship begins to materialize overhead. Carol then falls, her head aching. She realizes that Yon-Rogg somehow merged with the Psyche-Magnitron when it was destroyed and merged with the pieces...some of which may be in her skull. Regaining her composure, she vows to fight to the end.)
Captain Marvel #14 (Chapter 5. Continues immediately from Avengers Assemble #17. Arriving towards a materializing beam, Cap and Carol face Magnitron, Yon-Rogg's new incarnation. With effortless power, he creates obstacles while materializing Kree-Lar, a city of the Kree, over New York; he plans on dropping it and killing eight million New Yorkers. Agent Brand figures out that they have to disconnect their power source, but the Sentries, now locked in, are basically unstoppable. That's when Carol learns that she's the source of power, surrounded by a Sentry amplification pattern. She flies up into the sky and outer space until the small sliver of the psyche-magnitron in her head - the one that ultimately kept Yon-Rogg alive, alights the lesion in her brain. She passes out, but Yon-Rogg is defeated. The story ends, but no one knows if there will be a Captain Marvel anymore.)
~Wolverine realizes he's facing something greater than a simple psycho. Excerpt from Wolverine #1 (2013).

Analysis: Since Wolverine is one of Marvel's most successful superheroes, he's getting a lot of attention in the Marvel NOW! event. This title, simply called "Wolverine", is his second solo (after The Savage Wolverine). The story arc is called "Hunting Season", and puts Logan right in the middle of an alien encounter. The uniqueness of the plot is that his super-senses will be put to the test.

Wolverine #1 (The beginning issue. It has no chronological markers. A fast-paced story, Wolverine appears to be a mall-setting where a middle-aged man is standing over him with a powerful, unknown weapon. Wolverine is already damaged, but healing fast. Many dead people are already scattered about the area and the police, while trying to negotiate, are having no luck. The man's son is also there and his life is also in jeopardy. After taking another shot, Wolverine manages a few seconds to recover and slices the man up, killing him. The boy is traumatized, but after the police walk in, asks to see Wolverine. The child then asks some strange questions, grabs the gun and begins going psychotic. Wolverine goes after him. The kid runs him over with a car and gets away. But now, Wolverine senses that something far stranger is going on and goes on the hunt.)
Wolverine #2 (Continues from Wolverine #1, with almsot no lapse in time. (Also starring Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD, Logan continues hunting the child, but at the same time, whatever alien is controlling the boy also leads him on a chase. They finally have a detailed encounter and our hero learns that something is manipulating the boy's mind and switching hosts. Before Logan can catch him, the gun and alien switch bodies.
That's when Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD appears and disarms the new host. The gun flies off and the two heroes collaborate. Wolverine believes he may have some important evidence: a bullet still lodged in his arm. As they are talking, though, things go from bad to worse when The Watcher appears.)
Wolverine #3 (Continues from the previous issue. Logan finds some local allies skilled with super-human interaction and has the alien bullet removed; it is scanned and nothing unique detected. Meanwhile, Fury tracks the gun to Blenkins Pharmaceuticals and drops Logan into the fray. Although protected by MANDRIODs, he slashes his way through and stops the mind-controlled human, but not before a craft escapes with tech. It ends up at Port Reading where another group of mind-controlled humans start severing their hands and putting them into
an advanced incubator, newly arrived from the previous battle.)
~Kang laments over his master plan. Excerpt from Uncanny Avengers #6 (2013).

Analysis: With the second story arc of the newly-formed Uncanny Avengers, Kang the Conqueror becomes their next super-villain. He's bent on a world-dominating super-plot and gathering extremely powerful forces to take on the heroes. Early on, he acquires Thor's first weapon, Jarnbjorn, a magical axe. Later, he manipulates the heirs of Apocalypse.

This also introduces us to the Apocalypse Twins, Eimen and Uriel. Eimen's power is the ability to emit augmented acid which can "burn through time itself"; she is also blind. Uriel, the male, is a chronomancer can create artificial pockets of time. Together, they are central to Kang's plot.

Uncanny Avengers #6 (Continues from Uncanny Avengers #5, but has no defined chronology. Centering on Thor, God of Thunder, and Kang The Conqueror, this story spans across centuries. As a young god in early Scandinavia, Thor is attacked by Apocalypse; about to be killed, he flees to Odin, asking his father for a weapon suitable to pierce the villain's armor. Odin denies him, saying it would harm the future. Secretly though, Kang, who is posing as Loki, gives Thor a charm for his weapon, Jarnbjorn. In there next encounter, Apocalypse's Horsemen are about to kill the ancestor of Wolverine, but Thor slays them. The villain arrives and Thor almost
kills him. Odin, upon knowing this, is enraged, but the die is cast. At the end of the issue, we find out why; Kang travels to Brazil in the present and takes the Jarnbjorn from the skull of Baron Mordo to enact the next part of his evil plan.)
Uncanny Avengers #7 (Continues from Uncanny Avengers #5, with an undefined, short break. Starting with Genocide, the son of Apocalypse summoning a Celestial and preparing to receive the Apocalypse Seed. He's then ambushed by the Apocalypse Twins, Uriel and Eimin, wielding Jarnbjorn. Using this weapon, the Celestial is assassinated and the seed stolen. Meanwhile, back on earth, Rogue is cleared from Grim Reaper's death, but the damage is done. Havok asks her to stay on the sidelines and she's offended. Anti-mutant acts are occurring all over the world and it appears the Red Skull's tactics have had some success. Elsewhere, Captain America and
Sunfire are briefed of the Celestial murder at the SWORD station speaking to Agent Brand when the news of a ship approaching them at ramming speed alerts them. Cap escapse but Sunfire stays behind; he alerts the Havok's team before the station explodes. Thor and Wolverine are noticeably shaken as the weapon, Jarnbjorn is recognized, and the god of Thunder takes off on his own, remembering the warning Odin gave him so long ago about the weapon.)
Uncanny Avengers #8 (Continues immediately from the previous issue. Thor blasts the wreckage falling on Rio De Janeiro while Sunfire emerges unscathed. The two of them head to the Apocalypse vessel while
Wolverine, Havok, and the rest of the team fly towards the Apocalypse-loyal city of Akkaba; trust between the mutants and super-humans is becoming shaky. Meanwhile, Captain America survives the escape pod trip and realizes that it was sabotaged for Sunfire. He arrives at a secret location and receives a strange message. Back on the
spaceship, Thor and Sunfire meet the Apocalypse Twins; everyone is now over Akkaba. The twins first move is to incinerate all the citizens of the city in an act of mercy. They also relay that Wolverine is a traitor and Thor's previous weapon has aided them to this point. Unleashing an explosion of nuclear proportions, they leave Thor, Sunfire, and the approaching Uncanny Avengers in the wake of its destruction.)
~Wade argues with Vetis. Excerpt from Deadpool #9 (2013).

Analysis: Starting with Deadpool #7, an odd thing happened. Apparently, they didn't have a story ready for March 2013 - or the issue wasn't fully written. Either way, Marvel Editor Jordan D. White says he pulled the first issue of this story arc from a filing cabinet; it had been penned somewhere back in the 70s or 80s.

Centering on the demon, Vetis, Deadpool #7 acknowledges an agreement - a pact - between the he and the hero. Slingshotting to the immediately future, Veritas then returns to Wade in Deadpool #8 and begins exacting fulfillment of said terms of agreement. Wade, still sharing his brain with Agent Preston from the previous issues, has to comply. At the same time, he's also still dealing with the Necromancer who just happens to be involved with the demon. Vetis wants the spellcaster dead, but Wade needs him alive to figure out how to separate him and Preston.

Deadpool #7 (Has no chronological bearing. An issue which centers on nothing but strangeness, it diverges from any relevant event or point in current history. It has a few different chapters in it, but mostly slingshots back to the era when Tony Stark had his "Demon In A Bottle" story arc with alcoholism. The Writer states in the beginning that the team didn't make their deadline and that this is issue was already penned from way back. The only element to transcend this issue is the appearance of the demon, Vetis, who gets Wade to sign
a contract.)
Deadpool #8 (Occurs at least 30 years after Deadpool #7, putting it into the present time here. Otherwise, there are no chronological bearings. Wade and Agent Preston are now sharing Wade's body. They visit Preston's family in the dead of night. After some incidents, the demon, Vetis, appears and exacts his contract
with Wade. He gives him a list of people to kill from previous contracts. Wade and Preston decide to agree and first kill an invulnerable New Jersey thief named Corrado Coloruno by suffocating him. After that murder is over, Deadpool spots a pretty woman, but gets ambushed an knocked out. The girl and her cohorts then steal a kidney
and two pints of his blood and run off.)
Deadpool #9 (Continues from the previous issue. Wade's next assassination continues with an Aquaman-spoof hero. In the same issue, he, Benjamin Franklin, and the Necromancer, learn that the book they need to separate him from Agent Preston is in an ancient library below Styker's Island. They "break" in and head below and gather some manuscripts they think can help. Wade, however, is now concerned the demon Vetis will trick them all. In a brash move, he slices the Necromancer's neck, hoping it will send him to Mephisto, the demon who will set things right.)
Deadpool #10 (Continues from the previous issue. Wade teams up with the Superior Spider-Man in this issue to take on a whole host of villains like Stilt-Woman, The Trapster, and Batroc The Leaper. Once they finish, though, Spider-Man webs him up and leaves him. The story is precluded with Michael in Hell, attempting to gain an audience with Mephisto. The demon taking his request eats him up and prepares to administer his request.)
Analysis: Having taken on Luca Aldine, the disembodied eyeballs and also the brother of Ruth aka Blindfold, David begins a journey with her that takes him to the edges of his personality. In truth, she is everything to him: Lover, Nemesis, Advisor, and perhaps the only one who can save him. Their lives are entertwined in the strangest of ways, but without her, he cannot go on. This story arc centers on their inescapable relationship.

X-Men Legacy #7 (Continues from X-Men Legacy #6, after an undefined lapse in time. Somehow, the spirit of Charles Xavier is now a backstory. David now travels to a church after doing some research on Luca's past. All the while, he's aware of Blindfold following him astrally. Once inside, he's surrounded by lots of weirdos and tells them he is in love with a mutant. They're all mutant-haters and attempt to purify him. Once he's left alone in his own room, he confronts Blindfold and the two have argument. It turns out Luca was also a member here and wrote a Book of Prophecy. The church members retrieve David again for a ceremony, but before it can continue, Abagail Brand breaks into the room and attempts to arrest or find the source of an Dire Wraith problem. She spots Haller, but in the exchange, the church people realizes she associates with mutants and spit on her. In the next scene, she's arrested all of them and leaves. Blindfold leaves Haller on amicable terms and now he has the Luca's book.)
X-Men Legacy #8 (Continues from the previous issue, but occurs at a later undefined period. In an astral date with Blindfold, David and her observe a mutant teenager with the power to take credit and positive praise for things he doesn't do. They both try to figure out a way to help him make a difference in the world, but can't agree how. During the date, though, David's mind lashes out, expelling Blindfold from the dimension, and
nearly incapacitating him. To his rescue comes Charles Xavier, the mentally-linked version created by his mind. Afterwards, David leaves comments on a web page telling Blindfold how she was right about the mutant boy.)
X-Men Legacy #9 (Continues from X-Men Legacy #8, the time break is undefined. David takes Ruth on another date. This time it starts as a movie, milkshake, and so on. Suddenly, he turns philosophical and explains a story to her. It's about an alien named Aarkus who erroneously ends up believing the mutants must be destroyed. At the end of his story, they all die. Then he tells Ruth that he has seen this future and that it
will happen. Ruth believed his story by the end, but is stunned to realize that it hasn't happened yet. David then tells her he could rewrite this story and take Aarkus out, but Ruth won't have it, she's horrified he would kill a creature that hasn't yet done anything wrong. That's when David reveals Aarkus to Ruth and turns his, still breathing body over to her. The date ends and Ruth leaves. David, on the other hand, ponders if he is a monster.)
X-Men Legacy #10 (Continues from the previous issue. While David is sleeping, Ruth dons Cerebro, silently stalking him. David, fearing the future prophecy of Luca's book, speaks with the Xavier entity in his mind. He makes a deal: one minute of complete control if the entity lets him look into the future. Once agree upon, David witnesses two possibilities, him destroying everyone and the world, or him being destroyed by Blindfold. In response, he teleports to the San Francisco Institute of Bio-Social Studies and meets with Mr. Marcus Glove. David has discerned that this man is the most dangerous person to mutantkind; he's fashioned a cure and was indirectly responsible for the Church of The Happy Host tragedies. A mutilated man, Glove believes that mutants will destroy everything including themselves. But David, instead of destroying him, asks for the cure. Ruth, still stalking him, is astonished.)
X-Men Legacy #11 (Continues immediately from the previous issue. David continues to search the Institute of Marcus Glove for tricks, but he finds none; he's prepared to take the pill, fearing he'll do worse if he's allowed to continued with his mutant powers. Blindrfold now senses what David is about to do and runs through the school attempting to recruit mutants to help her extract the man she loves. Meanwhile, back at the Institute David encounters his own psyche, using his dad's image, but maintains his willingness to use the pill. As the issue closes, the true villain reveals himself. Dr. Marcus Glove is actually a manipulation of The Red Skull, now endowed with Xavier's powers. Too late, though, David doesn't care and still plans on taking the pill.)
Analysis: Michael Morbius, now freed during the preceding issues of Spider-Man, attempts to regain some semblance of life. He hates what he has become and ends up in Brownsville, New York during his adventure.

Optional Amazing Spider-Man #699.1 (There are no chronological markers in this issue. Although not officially part of the Marvel NOW! event, this issue starts with Michael Morbius breaking out of prison. It then goes into his past, becoming friends with "Emil", and the both of them working on a Nobel-based prize from research that will cure his blood disease. Michael, however, is impatient and forces his friend to test the cure on him, turning him into a living vampire. He turns and feeds on his friend, killing him in the process. At the end of the story, Michael has decided to flee into the mysterious unknown and a new title that will be called Morbius #1.)

Morbius, The Living Vampire #1 (Follows ASM #700, where his origin and prison breakout are explained. The story of Michael Morbius starts off with the many truths, lies, and myths about his vampire-like powers. We then learn that to avoid super-heroes, he takes the subway to Brownsville, where he walks the street homeless. Basically, everyone there, including cops, ignores the crime. That's when Michael meets Noah St. Germain, a sort of "Boss" or Bully of the thugs in the town. From the beginning to the end of the issue, Michael tussles with this figure until he's shot in the chest and expected to die.)
Morbius The Living Vampire #2 (Continues from Morbius #1. Michael comes to after having been mortally wounded. But then, he isn't mortal in the truest sense. He meets Becky, a homeless that helps him move to an abandoned theatre, and relates the story of how he ended up tusseling with Noah. Becky takes Morbius to Noah's hideout and they go at it again, all to save a young boy from being inducted into the gang. And although Noah has heightened strength, Michael finally unleashes his bloodlust and slashes his throat.)
Morbius The Living Vampire #3 (Resumes from the previous issue immediately. While Noah lays dying, his girlfriend goes berserk; she orders them to kill him, finally shooting Michael in the neck herself. But he survives and awakens, chained upside down. Becky and the boy, Henry, have escaped in the confusion, but Noah's girlfriend has a tail on them. Michael buys his freedom, proclaiming he can help Noah because he was a medical doctor. She warns him and lets him attempt to save her boyfriend's life. During the process, it appears Noah might make it, but suddenly he awakens and goes berserk. Michael shoves him down while flailing, and appears to kill him outright. And now his girlfriend is really mad.)
Morbius The Living Vampire #4 (Resumes from Morbius #3 immediately. Having enough of playing with mortals, Michael disarms Noah's girlfriend and bites her gunman. She then warns him about the truth behind Brownsville; it's a staging ground for crime waves and has been fought over for years. Noah's origin is also part of this issue; his original name was David Brill when he was rolled and "upgraded" at a place called the North Brother Island by a mysterious benefactor. This turns out to be a super-villain called The Rose, who secretly manipulated Morbius' arrival in the town. He plans on using Michael for his schemes. Meanwhile, the fights have just gotten worse, with thugs of The Rose firing on them all and whisking Noah's body away.)
Morbius The Living Vampire #5 (Resumes from the previous issue. The Gang War has intensified and Micheal decides to "clean house". He goes in, feral, and incapacitates everyone, including Noah's former girlfriend. In the aftermath, the citizens of Brownville, now aware of his flavor of vampirism, bind the wounds of the victim, ensuring their survival. Micheal hears a gunshot and returns to the house to find The Rose. In his introduction, the super-villain explains his plans and Micheal's part; he then shoots our hero in the chest and reveals a picture of Micheal's mother...a bound captive that will be killed unless the vampire does what he says. Later, The Rose calls an investor and states that everything is going as planned; ironically the person on the other end appears to be Micheal's father.)
Analysis: The second story arc of Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man's body takes place starting with Superior Spider-Man #7, but is effectively a good lead-in with issue #6. People are starting to sense things are different with the Web-Slinger and now there's going to be trouble.

Optional Avenging Spider-Man #18 (Electro returns and wants revenge on Thor. He makes a deal with AIM and in converted to an anti-matter form. Confronting the God of Thunder, he's now immune to Thor's control of electricity. Spider-Man, though, contructs a device and with Thor's help, gets rid of Electro. Thor believes him dead, but at the end, we learn Spider-Man captured him and has him contained next to Sandman in Doc Ock's lab.)

Superior Spider-Man #6 (Continues from Superior Spider-Man #5, but after Avenging Spider-Man #18. Thor comments that he's teamed up with Spidey and that he's different. Captain America is in his new threads. Featuring two internet buffoons, The Jester and Screwball. These two play some antics on Mayor Jameson for their website and get away. Jameson calls in Spider-Man to apprehend them; at first Spidey declines, then he decides to deal out some revenge against the bullies. His Spidey "bugs" eventually find them and he goes into fighting mode. Jester and Screwball decide to turn this into a web event; it starts off funny, but Spidey gets mad and beats them to a pulp. The viewers watching now realize Spidey is different.)
Superior Spider-Man #7 ( This issue completely skips the events in Superior Spider-Man #6AU as if they never happened. You'll have to read the Age of Ultron event to figure out why. The events here follow Superior Spider-Man #6. The beginning and mid-stream of this issue is about Cardiac using his powers to save people. He infiltrates a police lot to acquire a life-saving device originally created by Doctor Octopus. Spider-Man, however, arrives on the scene to stop him. The original Peter Parker's psyche and influence have slowly been more powerful, and he can now move his body while Doc Ock is sleeping; we also find out that Ock can almost "hear" him. When Spider-Man prepares to severely strike Cardiac, Parker mentally yells "NO". In the confusion, Cardiac gets away. Spidey is then called to Avengers Tower, where Captain America and the rest decide to give him an intervention; they have noticed he's not acting right. They tell him to get a physical, proving he's the real Spidey, or else. Spidey decides his answer is "Or Else", and fights back.)
Superior Spider-Man #8 (Closely follows the previous issue. Notably, Spidey comments that Iron Man is in space. Of Spidey's close contact, Carly and The Avengers are most suspicious. Carly calls in help from a mysterious stranger, and The Avengers force the Web-Crawler into submission, knocking him out. When he wakes up, their scanning his physiology completely. Unfortunately for Peter, trapped in his own brain, they detect nothing out of the norm. They let Spider-Man go, but warn him. As soon as he's free, he assaults Cardiac's hideout. He makes a path to his helmet and then finds out that his past exploits have caused a young girl's dying condition. Instead of ripping the helmet off her, he completes her diagnosis and performs the surgery to save his life. He then offers Cardiac his support and leaves. Once he's back at Horizon Labs, though, we find out the sobering truth. Doc Ock now knows that Peter is still alive and residing in his head. Now he can hear him, and now he plans to get rid of him completely. Is that confusing or what?)
Superior Spider-Man #9 (Follows the previous issue, with a short, undefined break. Otto now uses his brain scanner and locates the memory fragment of Peter Parker in his head. He then attempts the extraction of the last vestiges of the true Spider-Man. Parker isn't going down willingly, though; as his thoughts crumble, he fights back with all his strength. Suddenly, the battle goes into the psyche with Otto and Peter facing each other like never before. Each hurls weaknesses at each other as they ploy their mental strengths. Each believes they are the better Spider-Man. The fight goes to near extinction for each, but in the end, it appears Otto gains the advantage. On the last panels, it appears he's beaten Peter Parker completely. The original Spider-Man may be gone for good.)
Superior Spider-Man #10 (Continues from the previous issue with an undefined break. There is a reference by Mary Jane that Peter has changed over a period of months. It seems like the original Peter Parker is now gone, purged. Spider-Man, no unbridled, first goes after White Dragon and The Owl, but not after letting them thin themselves out in a gang war. In the midst of earning his Doctorate, Peter now ignores Mary Jane, but begins to have a relationship with his tutor. As all this is happening, a new villain is lurking other the streets of New York City. He's called the Goblin King and he's learned how to get around all the Spider-bots watching.)
Superior Spider-Man #11 (Continues from the previous issue, but there is an undefined break in time. Starting with J. Jonah Jameson's call to spidey, the issue focuses on the execution of Alistair Smythe aka the Spider Slayer. Expecting a break-out, the web-crawler uses his "superior" tech to be ready. Once the execution commences, true to form, Smythe attempts to escape and Spidey is ready. At the end, though, there is one thing he may have not realized; Scorpion, Vulture, and Boomerang are also nearby and Smythe has them fixed up and freed. His request is simple: I helped you, now help me kill Spider-Man!)
Analysis: Marvel comes up with an all-female alliance, heralding a new brand of justice with Valkyrie, Misty Knight, and more deadly ladies of power. These first few issues do not follow a distinct story arc, but represent the origin of the characters coming together as their first villain attempts to revive an ancient Asguardian legend.

Fearless Defenders #1 (Has no chronological markers. Misty Knight has been retained by Annabelle Riggs to acquire Asguardian artifacts, but when she stops the smugglers, she assaulted by mercs with high-tech weaponry. She manages to escape with a piece. Once she gives it over to Riggs, it turns on, emitting an ancient song, and calling the dead in the area to undeath. Misty goes into action, but is surprised when Valkyrie on her winged Aragorn land and take to battle. Valkryie destroyed the artifact the end zombied-warriors fall. Searching for wisdom, she tells Riggs and Knight that she will consult with All-Mother. Riggs decides to go with her, and Misty plans on staying around as a bodyguard. By the end of the issue, we learn that a plot is hatching to awaken Doommaidens.)
Fearless Defenders #2 (Continues from the previous issue. This issue begins with mercenaries attempting to capture Dani Moonstar. She's ready for them and takes most of them out, but is eventually caught. When she awakens, she's in a stone encasement, captured by a woman who says she wants to become a Valkyrie. The story then cuts to Broxton, Oklahoma where the Misty, Annabelle, and the last Valkyrie are approaching Asgardia. When the reach the All-Mother, the learn about the Doom Maidens and their possible return. Hela, goddess of Death, appears, and Valkyrie goes immediately into a frenzy, attacking her. During the battle, though, Hela has her own champion: Warrior Woman, Hippolyta.)
Fearless Defenders #3 (Follows immediately from Fearless Defenders #2. Now that Hippolyta has appeared, Hela announces that she's chosen her as her champion. The All-Mother staves her command though, stating that Hippolyta, The Valkyrie, Misty Knight and Riggs will all go together to the source of the Doom Maiden trouble. That turns out to be Washington State. As they search, Dani is caught in the middle of a ritual, awakening the ancient Maidens. The girls arrive just in time to battle. The endgame is uncertain, but the female legends stop when they assume The Valkyrie is one of them.)
Fearless Defenders #4 (Follows immediately from the previous issue. Valkyrie is confused, but fights on. Something strange has her distracted. During the battle, though, the rest of the team manages to retrieve Dani and escape. They make a strategic withdrawal to one of Misty's safehouses. Valkyrie, having one of her visions, realizes the truth, that she is a Doommaiden and the rest will come for her. She splits the team up, leaving Misty and Annabelle behind. Misty has other plans, though, and calls on her Heroes For Hire resources.)
Fearless Defenders #5 (Follows immediately from the previous issue. Valkyrie, Hippolyta, and Dani are fighting for their lives and the Doommaidens come in on flying dragons. About to be beaten, Misty shows up with multiple super-women, everyone from Thundra and She-Hulk to Black Cat and Black Widow. As the tide of the fight turns, though, Valkyrie herself unleashes. She's becoming consumed with her Doommaiden heritage; she's now in a rage.)
Analysis: Compared to this series, X-Force and the previous Secret Avengers were child's play. Now building a true espionage force to accomplish their dirtiest missions, SHIELD has recruited a task force that forgets almost everything - who sent them, their objectives, and secrets that could implicate the organization. Main characters are Mockingbird, Black Widow, Hawkeye, and Nick Fury, Agent of SHIELD.

Secret Avengers #1 (Currently placed here because there are no chronological markers. Hawkeye and Black Widow team up with the latest Nick Fury incarnation to go on a mission involving the attempted assassination of The President. The target is Andras Bertesy, a drug-dealer and practitioner of the mystic arts. Surrounding the story is the strange case of memory lapses and redacted information. It turns out SHIELD is using specialized nano-tech on Natasha and Clint to keep them from remembering the truth should they become captured or a threat. At one point, Clint remembers be shot by three thugs, but it turns out it was actually Fury; they just manipulated the memory to make it acceptable. Andras is captured by the end of the story, and his plot was to use Darkforce energy to teleport a terrorist into the White House. When the plan finally enacts, though, Fury is waiting and kills the killer.)
Secret Avengers #2 (Continues after Secret Avengers #1 with an undefined lapse in time. Starting off with the focus on AIM and the new Scientest Supreme, they are having a breakthrough at one of their facilities, and moving forward in their plans. The story then shifts to the new Nick Fury in the villain-nation of Bagalia. He's buying Taskmaster out of prison there and gets double-crossed by the villain Crossfire. They manage to escape with the help of Mockingbird, Coulson, Black Widow, and Hawkeye, later offering him a job. Bagalia appears to be a consortium of super-criminals running the government, with villains also in the citizenry. As the AIM Scientist Supreme begins conversing with their Department Heads, though, we notice that Taskmaster, obviously a SHIELD double-agent, is now their Minister of Defense.)
Secret Avengers #3 (Continues from Secret Avengers #2, but there is an undefined time lapse. As Agent Fury and Director Johnson visit a tech expo, they are surprised to see that an Iron Patriot version of Iron Man is being shown and will be used as drones. AIM, now a diplomatic organization with their own country, arrives and begins to get into an altercation with Daisy. She strikes and then a fight begins. They kill a Senator and steal the Iron Patriot before leaving. Meanwhile, Maria Hill is tasking Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Mockingbird to unofficially breach the AIM headquarters. They take out a number of scientists and find a copy of the JOCASTA andriod. Or is it? At the end, The Scientist Supreme has some plans for Mentallo, and it involves the new Iron Patriot they acquired.)
Secret Avengers #4 (Continues from the previous issue. Using their new armor, AIM grabs the rest of the Iron Patriots and uses Mentallo's power to make them sentient. SHIELD brings in Bruce Banner aka Hulk to help them. As the behemoth, he jumps in to a mess of the Iron Patriots and destroys everything. Quickly after, though, they wipe his memory and make it look like it was a rampage of the monster of his own volition. Near the same timeframe, Mockingbird and her team are breaking into AIM Island; the plan is to assassinate the AIM Scientist Supreme.)
Analysis: The second story arc from Iron Man is the AvX: Godkiller plot. Now Iron Man is out in space; he's had interaction with the Guardians of The Galaxy and he's been exploring. Uniquely, this is also important to the Avengers vs. X-Men story arc, as it has some implications to the disappearance of The Phoenix.

Iron Man #6 (Has no chronological bearing at the time. This placement may be temporary. In Iron Man #5, the story ends that this suit will be built "weeks later". New "space suit" and new "PEPPER" a.i. After fighting and finishing up space pirates, Tony ends up on a ship with the Voldi, an ancient race whose teachings have reached the Kree and Shi'ar. It's his birthday and he tries to hook up with a Voldi princess, but she's disgusted by his hair. As his day gets worse, though, he's attacked by robots. Destroying them, he learns that they are cops and he's under arrest. He turns himself in to find out that they are arresting him for the destruction of "The Void Falcon", which you and I know as "The Phoenix". This issue has multiple banners. It is also part of an event called AvX Aftermath.)
Iron Man #7 (Continues from Iron Man #6 after a short period. Tony is now a prisoner of the Voldi and has been called on to answer for crimes against their people and their god, which turns out to be the Phoenix Force. The issue is built a lot like a Star Wars movie, but ultimately the robot, or droid, supplying him with drinks reveals itself to be Recorder 451, a Rigellian creation unique to its kind because of a programming malfunction. Explaining it's origin, it tells Tony of a play to invoke Shay-Tah Run, a Voldi rite of combat. In Star Trek-like Captain Kirk fashion, Tony issues the challenge during his trial and ends up in an arena like a pit fighter. Fortunately for him, the Voldi suck at fighting; Tony beats them all up. At the same time, the Recorder is searching for Tony's armor, getting closer by the moment. But as Tony tires, the goal is for him to stay alive long enough for this plot to work. Getting worried, though, the Voldi Supreme Justicar begins to consider that Stark's success in combat may cause a problem. Her advisor comes up with a solution, and on the last page Tony meets his final opponent, Death's Head the Bounty Hunter.)
Iron Man #8 (Continues immediately from Iron Man #7. Death's Head begins attacking and all Tony can do is run. Elsewhere, Recorder 451 reaches the Iron Man armor and convinces the Pepper AI to rescue him. In the meantime, he steals the Voldi "Heart", a very special device. Back at the arena, Tony is saved as a moments notice when his armor flies in, knocking Death's Head away. He suits up and rockets back to his mobile armory. While gearing up, Pepper tells him something bad is happening back at the Voldi base. It the Celestials: they are now destroying the ancient race. Before Iron Man can turn and help them, Recorder 451 displays his image saying that they heart was a device they used to siphon power off The Celestials. Once he removed it, The Celestials killed them like a tick. It turns out all this was Recorder's idea: to lure Stark to The Voldi and use him as a distraction while he stole The Heart. Thanking Iron Man, he disappears.)
