Deadpool and The Demonic Contracts

~Wade argues with Vetis. Excerpt from Deadpool #9 (2013).

Analysis: Starting with Deadpool #7, an odd thing happened. Apparently, they didn't have a story ready for March 2013 - or the issue wasn't fully written. Either way, Marvel Editor Jordan D. White says he pulled the first issue of this story arc from a filing cabinet; it had been penned somewhere back in the 70s or 80s.

Centering on the demon, Vetis, Deadpool #7 acknowledges an agreement - a pact - between the he and the hero. Slingshotting to the immediately future, Veritas then returns to Wade in Deadpool #8 and begins exacting fulfillment of said terms of agreement. Wade, still sharing his brain with Agent Preston from the previous issues, has to comply. At the same time, he's also still dealing with the Necromancer who just happens to be involved with the demon. Vetis wants the spellcaster dead, but Wade needs him alive to figure out how to separate him and Preston.

Deadpool #7 (Has no chronological bearing. An issue which centers on nothing but strangeness, it diverges from any relevant event or point in current history. It has a few different chapters in it, but mostly slingshots back to the era when Tony Stark had his "Demon In A Bottle" story arc with alcoholism. The Writer states in the beginning that the team didn't make their deadline and that this is issue was already penned from way back. The only element to transcend this issue is the appearance of the demon, Vetis, who gets Wade to sign a contract.)
Deadpool #8 (Occurs at least 30 years after Deadpool #7, putting it into the present time here. Otherwise, there are no chronological bearings. Wade and Agent Preston are now sharing Wade's body. They visit Preston's family in the dead of night. After some incidents, the demon, Vetis, appears and exacts his contract with Wade. He gives him a list of people to kill from previous contracts. Wade and Preston decide to agree and first kill an invulnerable New Jersey thief named Corrado Coloruno by suffocating him. After that murder is over, Deadpool spots a pretty woman, but gets ambushed an knocked out. The girl and her cohorts then steal a kidney and two pints of his blood and run off.)
Deadpool #9 (Continues from the previous issue. Wade's next assassination continues with an Aquaman-spoof hero. In the same issue, he, Benjamin Franklin, and the Necromancer, learn that the book they need to separate him from Agent Preston is in an ancient library below Styker's Island. They "break" in and head below and gather some manuscripts they think can help. Wade, however, is now concerned the demon Vetis will trick them all. In a brash move, he slices the Necromancer's neck, hoping it will send him to Mephisto, the demon who will set things right.)
Deadpool #10 (Continues from the previous issue. Wade teams up with the Superior Spider-Man in this issue to take on a whole host of villains like Stilt-Woman, The Trapster, and Batroc The Leaper. Once they finish, though, Spider-Man webs him up and leaves him. The story is precluded with Michael in Hell, attempting to gain an audience with Mephisto. The demon taking his request eats him up and prepares to administer his request.)

Deadpool vs. The Dead Presidents

~Excerpt from Deadpool #6 (2013), part of Marvel NOW!.

Analysis: You can't expect too much out of Deadpool because you're never sure what's really happening or if he's just hallucinating. Either way, The Avengers that appear during this story are all dressed in their earliest garb and that means this story arc occurs early in the event.

Deadpool #1 (There are no chronological markers in this issue. A hippie-necromancer is in Independence, Missouri and begins his quest to raise dead Presidents from the grave. As he is raising dead Harry Truman, Captain America captures him. Unfortunately, he teleports away. Cap has to face the dead President, and unexpectedly, decapitates him. At SHIELD, Agent Preston is given the task of figuring out how to put the other dead Presidents down. Since Captain America doesn't fit well for public relations, she hires Deadpool to do this job. As he appears during a dead President's meeting, he fights, but eventually gets shot by dead Lincoln, from behind. The dead Presidents then decide to draft legislation and destroy the country.)
Deadpool #2 (Continues, after a brief respite, from Deadpool #1. Wade is "recovering" after being shot in the head and that's when the ghost of Ben Franklin appears and offers to assist. Elsewhere, Presidents Washington and John F. Kennedy have the necromancer captured and are forcing him to raise them an undead army. Back at SHIELD, Agent Prescott finds Wade a new mission, take out undead Theodore Roosevelt. Wade happily goes into battle, armed with new knowledge from Franklin, and finishes the job. Afterwards, he decides to head to the home of Doctor Strange, seeing if some magic will help.)
Deadpool #3 (Continues from Deadpool #2. Wade, Ben Franklin's ghost, and Agent Prescott are in the home of Doctor Strange, finally convincing him to aid with his magics. Using the Eye of Agamotto, he locates the Necromancer and eventually teleports the group in while they are torturing the old fool for an undead army. Wade gets to unleash ...more death...and one-liners while their battle finally ends up by Dead Nixon and the Watergate Hotel. Before Doctor Strange finishes, he enchants a sword for Wade that will kill ghosts; he also learns a secret about him, but it isn't revealed to the reader. Lastly, it turns out the Necromancer was a former SHIELD employee. Now Wade plans on taking the fight to the ghost with his new advantages.)
Deadpool #4 (Continues from Deadpool #3. Wade continues to breach the fourth wall as he takes on a whole host of dead presidents, from Truman to Van Buren to John F. Kennedy. Each one is a parady of antics and comedy set-ups. The final showdown of the issue occurs between Deadpool and Lincoln in a boxing-wrestling match, but finally Deadpool wins. On the last page, it's a matter of space; Dead President Reagan is up there on the Russian Space Station.) 011 Deadpool #5 (Continues from Deadpool #4. After learning that the ghost of Reagan is out in space attempting to launch Russian missiles, Wade is teleported there by Michael the Necromancer. He takes on the ex-President and after much witty banter, saves the day. Back on earth in the debriefing, Preston gives Wade the "Thumbs Up" until ex-President Washington teleports in, following Michael's trail. Caught off guard, he snaps Preston's neck and takes out Wade. Micheal reacts as quickly as he can and teleports them near the Washington Monument.)
Deadpool #6 (Continues from Deadpool #5, and has a scene where the Avengers show up. Noticeably, they are all in older uniforms, pushing the Deadpool series way back in the reading order. The confrontation finally ends up at Washington D.C. where Washington has a sphere of death surrounding him as he brings about an undead army. Somehow, Wade gets in and survives. He pulls Washington's head off, retrieves the sword, and saves the day. The avengers arrive shortly thereafter and quarantine the perimeter. The surprise ending shows that Michael the Necromancer actually put Preston's spirit in Deapool's body. Now he's truly of two minds.)

Another Plan Brought To You By Wade Wilson

~Excerpt from Deadpool #4 (2013)

He may be one of the world's most incredible mercenaries - he may be a big loud-mouth, but Wade Wilson isn't opposed to putting on a dress either.

Part of the Marvel NOW! event, Deadpool is finishing up his battles with the Dead Presidents in Deadpool #4. In this scene, he's luring the ghastly and corporeal John F. Kennedy into his trap using his one, greatest weakness, a ghostly Marilyn Monroe!

And there's more. Pick up this issue, especially if you want to see Wade in a boxing match with the ghost of Abraham Lincoln.

SUPERFUNNIES

Is This A Team-Up?

~Marvel NOW! lastest release, Deadpool #1 (2012)

Wade Wilson is back and he's part of the Marvel NOW! revolution.

After concluding his adventures from Deadpool #63 (2012) in October, Wade's been given his latest comeback, self-titled "Deadpool". Previously, he had been fighting an evil clone of himself; the twisted duplicate had formed from left-over parts of Wade, attempting to kill him for revenge (well, no one really ever knew why, but we think it was revenge). In Deadpool #1, we're not really sure what happened, and to commemorate the plot, Marvel simply started a new one.

But it's a funny one. In the scenes above, a gigantic, green lizard terrorizes the city and the Asgardian, Thor and Deadpool are on the scene.

Go Get Em' Deadpool!

~Deadpool #56 (2012)

Deadpool has lost his powers; now he needs to refine his skills with the help of his old nemesis, sometimes best pal, Taskmaster.

After losing his powers, Wade Wilson joins his cohort with a straight-up-the-middle plan in Deadpool #56; he's going to attack a secret SHIELD installation in Nevada and get some Pym Particles. This is clearly a two-man operation: Deadpool leads an all-out frontal assault while Taskmaster gets the treasure.

By the way, did we mention Deadpool has LOST HIS POWERS?
