Where in the World is Traci 13?

THE TOP 10 SCARY WITCH SUPERHEROES

Superhero Witch #9

~Flashpoint: The World of Flashpoint #1 (2011)

Are you familiar with the term Homo Magi? That's the rare individual born with magical ability. In DC Comics, it's extremely similar to a mutation and only a handful of notable individuals have so far been recognized.

Meet Traci 13. Originally she was known as Traci Thirteen (big difference). And, not surprisingly, she's the daughter of noted parapsychologist, Doctor Thirteen. With the big chances in DC, she's been increasingly involved in the magical problems of the universe, but has remained near the bottom of the heap when you compare her to the big-name spellcasters.

It might be because Traci is a teenager. This, once again, seems to be the most defining characteristic of witches in their youth: fiery, short temper, a sort of anti-hero philosophy, and a willingness to cross the line to suit their purpose. Traci's first appearance, though, was in Superman #189 (2003), where she helped him survive a magical encounter.

It's hard to tell where Traci 13 is going to show up nowadays. Although she was working with the Teen Titans for awhile, there's been no trace of her lately. Still, the question is not "if", but "when" she'll return. Since her 2003 initial showing, she's had increasing promise, even integral during the Flashpoint event.

Halloween is one of the best Holidays for comic book fans; that's when it's actually cool to dress up with a cape! To commemorate the occasion we have The Top 10 Scary Witch Superheroes, a Countdown sponsored by The Superheroes List. Spells will fly, incantations may be called, but who can blame them; it's time to be horrified and Read this List!

Pandora Is Her Name

~Justice League #6 (2012)

This issue of Justice League is packed with some interesting info; it would also have to win a grand prize for Villainous Moments.

Why's that? Glad you asked; the beginning puts the League directly in confrontation with Darkseid in a battle for the fate of the world. Once that's over, another chapter called "The Beginning" suggests a super villainous group is about to become revealed (Legion of Doom perhaps?).

Lastly, we come upon this week's most villainous moment. Her name is Pandora and she's in a conversation with The Phantom Stranger; together, they make up two-thirds of the Sinners. What's most interesting is their allusion to her remaking the world. My friends, this could get real interesting if she's the lady figure that appeared at the end of the Flashpoint event.

Villainous Moments is a column from of The Superheroes List, updated weekly (usually Tuesday). What are the bad guys doing this week? Macabre and unthinkable, grotesque and unbearable; here's your answer! Look for #VillainousMoments on Twitter.

Event #2: Flashpoint

The real excitement (and anxiety) that challenged DC readers started on Free Comic Book Day in the month of May; before The New 52 was even a whisper, we were preparing for a super-sized shakeup hinging upon The Flash. Geoff Johns, the brainchild behind many of their stories, was spearheading the event and our only clue was that everything we knew would be forever changed.Read More...

This Flashpoint title is the backbone of the event. Barry Allen wakes up and finds himself in a world where he's no longer The Flash. To make things worse Captain Cold is a hero and Bruce Wayne is no longer Batman. Follow this series to find out how our Scarlet Speedster uncovers the truth and tries to save reality as he knew it.

(Book Description) Not a dream, not an imaginary story, not an elseworld. This is Flash Fact: When Barry Allen wakes at his desk, he discovers the world has changed. Family is alive, loved ones are strangers, and close friends are different, gone or worse. It's a world on the brink of a cataclysmic war - but where are Earth's Greatest Heroes to stop it? It's a place where America's last hope is Cyborg, who hopes to gather the forces of The Outsider, The Secret 7, S!H!A!Z!A!M!, Citizen Cold and other new and familiar-yetaltered faces! It's a world that could be running out of time, if The Flash can't find the villain who altered the time line!

Flashpoint is #2 on the Top 5 Comic Book Events of 2011, a countdown provided by The Superheroes List. This year was highly eventful; if you want to know what really powered the comic book worlds, Check out the List!

Flashpoint is The #1 Greatest Flash Story

While there are many different points of contention about where Flash was the greatest, when he was at his best, or whether Barry or Wally was better, there's almost no chance that any story will be make more of a dramatic difference than Flashpoint, whose motto was Where everything you know changed in a flash.

Crossing into a realm of strangeness that affected every DC character on the roster, Flashpoint has now become defined as the endpoint of one era of comic books, and the starting mark for an entirely new series of DC's titles. On August 31, 2011, when the last issue of Flashpoint hit the stands, all their previous comic lines shut down; Batman ended; Superman ended; Green Lantern, over. Instead, DC Comics will be releasing 52 brand-new titles which reboot the universe. The concept is that they wanted to modernize their heroes to fit into the technology and problems surrounding current events. More...

Flashpoint...and reboots.

Just in case you haven't been following along, DC has announced they will be rebooting a huge amount of titles (50+) after the conclusion of the Flashpoint event, which will be August 31, 2011. This information was gleaned from Comic Book Resources.

Feeling like a yo-yo? I'm not surprised. There's a trend of confusion hitting the superhero titles. Lots of changes, for sure; just when I thought they were killing off some good guys, they end up coming back - no wait - they're being rebooted. No, WAIT! They're being killed off again.

But all that aside, I have to be fair about Flashpoint. I'm extremely impressed with the story so far and the large scale implications it has in the DC Universe. Only a few weeks in, I'm spellbound by each tie-in. For example:

  • Thomas Wayne is now the vigilante Batman, far more severe than his deceased son. He plays a much older version and is not willing to kill his opponents.
  • Captain Cold is now a hero. Or is he? Turns out he has a criminal background and will stop at nothing to keep it hidden.
  • Aquaman and Wonder Woman are battling over a decimated western Europe. The entire area is pirated and a superhero/villain war zone.

...and there's much more. Geoff Johns is running a great event. And while I'm mystified with the amount of reboots and retcons since DC's Final Crisis, Flashpoint is a true hit.
